Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500, Dallara Automobili has unveiled two full-scale mock-ups of the 2012 spec IndyCar 'Safety Cell', along with their initial ideas of what the oval and road/street course aero kits might look like.

This fullfills a promise that Dallara had made to Tony Cotman, the man in overall charge of the 2012 spec developement program, who wanted them at IMS during the month of May to whet the fan's 'appetite', as well as to - hopefully - stimulate the creative efforts of other potential aero kit makers.

“The idea behind these is to show two totally different-looking vehicles that underneath are the same chassis," Cotman said. "There is a lot of room for aerodynamic kit development and that’s what this platform is about – allowing people the freedom to design as they wish, dream as they wish and come up with a superior product than others. That’s what drives competition."

Cotman stressed that the aero kits revieled on Tuesday have yet to ungo any on-track testing, so people should not expect that they represent the 'final' version that Dallara will be producing later this year.

I will be taking my own photos & video of them when I am at IMS next weekend for qualifications, and will post them as soon as I can.
