Irvine hasn't contacted Jordan

Time to retire?

There are a huge number of rumours on the internet with respect to Eddie Irvine's position for 2003. On Friday, Eddie and Pedro de la Rosa were both dumped by Jaguar, in favour of Antonio Pizzonia and Minardi's Mark Webber. Eddie's hopes for an F1 drive appear to lie with Jordan next year.

Motormouth Irvine has been unusually quiet since he was released from Jaguar.  It emerges that he upset nearly everybody in the team at one time or another.  So much so that Nikki Lauda decided not to extend Irvine's contract for 2003.

"I suppose the new Jordan Ford is the only place left for me," Irvine said. "There's no point saying much more at the moment."

However Jordan have tonight taken the opportunity to stress that there are two drivers already under contract for 2003.

Jordan's PR department said "Eddie Irvine is a good friend of Jordan however we already have two drivers under contract for next year.  Irvine hasn't talked to anyone at Jordan since the announcement from Jaguar"

As Irvine wasn't contracted for 2003 the decision to dump him seems to have been an easy one for the Jaguar Management team.  Even if Eddie was prepared to take a drop in his considerable wage packet, the team decided against him.

We wish Eddie luck in securing a drive for 2003 but it may be in CART rather than F1.
