Jordan's dismal season continued today with Giancarlo Fisichella retiring on lap 6 of the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona. Takuma Sato didn't last much longer, spinning out on lap 11. Yet another double DNF for the Silverstone based team.
Being asked by Louise Goodman on ITV, Eddie Jordan said that he felt that he expected more from the hasty restructuring that went on at the team earlier in the week. Giancarlo retired with a hydraulic failure but Takuma seemed to loose the car on turn 12 and was unable to recover the car and ended up in the gravel at turn 13.
"Takuma will be given an opportunity to explain himself ." said an angry Eddie Jordan. "I don't want to say anything but we'll give him his chance in private."
Takuma Sato:
"Everything was going well and then I got massive understeer into a corner and
ran up on the kerb and onto the grass, I turned the wheel but the car was
pushing straight on and although I tried to keep running along the grass I had
turn keep turning into the next corner and spun off."
Giancarlo Fisichella:
"Not a good day at all.. It seems I had the same hydraulic problem that I
had in San Marino. I don't understand why it always happens to me! I am very
disappointed, it's very difficult at the moment. We have to keep pushing until
it comes right. I know everyone is working hard and I am hoping for a big
improvement by the time of the Canadian Grand Prix in June."
Eddie Jordan:
"I need to find out more about what happened today. It seems we had a hydraulic
problem on Giancarlo's car which we need to investigate and resolve. Taku may
have made a mistake or perhaps the car had a problem, but difficult to say until
we have a chance to talk to him properly. It's been a hard week for the team
with all the changes we announced, but I sense that everyone is more determined
than ever to bring the team back to where it should be and today's result will
only make us even more steely and committed."
Could this be Takuma's last Grand Prix with Jordan? Probably not, but lets hope that Eddie has a chance to calm down before he talks to Takuma.
