It's official. Giancarlo Fisichella will leave Jordan at the end of 2003 to drive for Swiss based team Sauber in 2004. This puts an end to the rumours that the Italian wasn't happy with the progress of the Jordan team and was looking to move.

Sauber is seen as a stepping stone towards Fisi's main goal, that of a drive with Ferrari.  Sauber released both of it's drivers Nick Heidfeld and Heinz Harald Frentzen by not opting for them for next year.  It's believed that Heinz will retire and that Nick could possibly do a straight swap with Fisi to Jordan.

"In mid-August I met with Peter Sauber in Switzerland and I immediately had a positive feeling," said Fisi.  "The new wind tunnel highly impressed me and it proves the team has a lot of potential and want to be successful. I'm looking forward to the new challenge."

"It's been a few years now that I've been following the career of Giancarlo" said Peter Sauber. "I believe he's one of the best drivers in Formula One"

So do we Pete, so do we.

Jordan Fans wishes every success to the stubbly Italian for 2004 and hope that he can realise his dream of driving at the very top.
