Will "The Swerve" be back at Jordan?

Swervin' Irvine

Rumours insist that Eddie Irvine is on his way back to Jordan, the team with whom he started his Formula One career. The team have denied previously that any approach had been by "The Swerve" for a drive. This story was previously posted on this site... Jordan's Official Site says that "Jordan Grand Prix has pointed out that rumours concerning the possibility of Eddie Irvine driving for the team next year are 'entirely baseless and without any foundation.' A fabricated story has appeared in several British newspapers and websites without any approach to the team being made to verify the rumour."

So the silly season rattles on.  Louise Goodman, pitlane reporter for ITV asked EI about the situation with Jaguar as his contract ends in Japan.  Irvine said, "I just want to go racing and have the most fun I can have and do the best job I can do. I want to go somewhere that can be achieved," said the Ulsterman. "There?s no rush though. No rush at all. For sure I?d like to have more control over situation, but I?m in a reasonable position for me."  He added,  "I'm very open minded. I want to get as competitive a car as I can get. Jaguar is definitely getting better but we?re still not as good as we potentially can be."

It's a bit like me saying "I'm gonna be an F1 driver next week".  It sounds good but it ain't going to happen.  There have been sillier suggestions this weekend but as the rumour mill plods along, silly season this year is going to be fun.

As a reminder, Jordan confirmed to this site that "Takuma is on a 2 year deal with an option on our side for a further 2 years, and Giancarlo has a three year contract with Jordan."
