In recent weeks the attitude of Ferrari towards Juan Pablo Montoya and vice versa seems to have taken a very big change. Is the Colombian set for a drive with Ferrari in the near future? Well recent comments would seem to suggest so.

Off course Michael is strong mentally so these attacks bounced back off him and returned to Montoya who lost a lot of third party support early this season with his constant whinging in the media. Then came two races, Malaysia and Brazil, which really added fuel to the fire. In Malaysia Michael and Juan tangled at turn 1 resulting in a pit stop for Michael and a drive-thru penalty for the Colombian. Personally the penalty imposed on Juan was unjust in my opinion but never the less it added to the tension. In Brazil Montoya lost the plot totally and drove into the back of Michael in a rash move resulting in him losing any chance of winning the race.
But it was the after race comments by Montoya that shocked most. Juan went on to talk of unfair driving, revenge plots and generally threw all his toys out the pram. Since then though things seem to have calmed down very much as Michael and Juan have never came to blows on track since.
But now in recent weeks a change can be felt. It was at the British GP that Jean Todt spent an afternoon in the company of Frank Williams at his English home, nobody knows for sure why or what was the reason for Todt’s visit and it was a strange visit all the same. Recently Ross Brawn was in a press conference where he was asked about Montoya. Brawn rates the Colombian but his words that he needed a more supporting team and he was not being used to his best at Williams came as a bit of a surprise to most.
Michael Schumacher and Montoya seem to have found a more honest and friendly relationship on the track and off it. They both know that neither will give an inch when it comes to racing and the same when it comes to media talk. But Michael recently said that he would have no problems working alongside Juan at Ferrari in fact he openly welcomed it as a chance to prove that he is better. Then Juan has been saying in the media that he would not stop driving for a team that openly used team orders, as he was quick to point out that all teams do it one way or another but maybe not so open as the likes of Ferrari.
I know that these quotes could all be coincidental but if you add them all up in this context then it seems clear as day that Montoya himself and Ferrari are making significant steps towards a working relationship. When Michael Schumacher broke his leg at Silverstone in 1999 it was Juan Pablo who was the first choice by the team to replace him, but they were unable to free him to take on this role. Luca di Montezemolo is a big fan of the Colombian and rates him highly. I am sure many will not like the thought about Montoya driving for Ferrari but then there is bound to be a lot who secretly would like it.
