After setting the 3rd fastest time overall in today’s free practice sessions Michael Schumacher is not that worried by the pace seen today by the McLaren duo of David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen. Schumacher feels that they would have been a lot lighter than the Ferrari today, instead he and his engineers worked on the set-up and balance of his F2002. But he is still going to keep an eye on those McLaren’s tomorrow.

“We worked on improving the set-up and the car was well balanced,” said the German. “Looking at the lap times things were not too bad. The Michelins looked strong, but usually on a Friday, the McLarens run with a lighter fuel load than us, so I am not really surprised. I am not writing them off but I was paying more attention to what the Williams were doing and we were quicker today. However, that does not mean we will see the same situation tomorrow.”

Today Michael was ripping round the track in the magnificent F2002, quite a difference from the leisurely lap of the track he took yesterday on a bicycle. Schumacher took the chance to have a good close up look at the track and some of the new changes the tracks officials have made for this years event. It is not the first time Schumacher has taken to this track on two wheels and it probably wont be his last judging by the enjoyment he gets out of it.

“It was really good fun and yet again it made me realise how special this track is,” he said. “When you are in a car you don’t realise how many climbs and drops there are! And it reminded me of the first time I went round it by bike and I relived the same feeling. It also meant I was able to have a close look at the changes made to the Bus Stop chicane and they seem to be very good. Always going over the kerbs, you run the risk of damaging the suspension and tyres, shortly before tackling Eau Rouge at full speed. I think these changes are a step forward from the safety point of view.”
