Former Ferrari driver Nigel Mansell was at Spa for the start of the race but he decided to leave the circuit and return home to England after seeing Michael Schumacher make the perfect start. And by the time Mansell got home and turned on his TV he witnessed Schumacher taking his tenth win of the season and setting a new record that he once shared with the English driver.

Nigel had won nine races in the 1992 season and he was only too happy to offer his congratulations to Michael. “I have no problem losing this record to Michael because he has done a fantastic job, and so have the team.” Said Mansell.

“It’s an incredible car they have produced, not just for sheer speed but also reliability. The way Michael is going I can see him grabbing his sixth world title next season.”

Schumacher led the Belgian GP from start to finish to secure the record that has eluded him on many occasions. His win yesterday was also the fiftieth podium in a row for Ferrari marking another highlight of this Ferrari era.

It was Schumacher’s sixth win at Spa although he has actually won seven times but was wrongly disqualified when driving for Benetton. Schumacher was wished the best of luck on the grid by Nigel and it was a touching gesture said the world champion.

“Nigel came to see me on the grid and wished me luck, which was nice of him.” Said Schumacher.
