Michael Schumacher had a perfect weekend in his ‘living room’ this weekend. The German champion took his 10th win of the season along with pole position and the fastest race lap to really cap off a wonderful weekend at Spa.

“I am lost for words as this was an exceptional weekend in Spa, first because of taking pole and then taking the tenth win of the season on this my favourite track,” commented the German. “This has been a fantastic season, so maybe we should not ask for more. But we will continue to do our best and I hope that at the next race in Monza, we will be able to please our fans again!”
The Saturday pole position came on the birthday of Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Michael is hoping that his performance was a nice birthday gift to the man at the top. Montezemolo had watched the race from Italy and he was one of the first to send his congratulations to Michael.
“Saturday was the President’s birthday and he had asked for a present from me. I hope he liked it,” said a smiling Schumacher.
With ten race wins for himself and another two for his team mate Rubens Barrichello you could say it has been a perfect season for Ferrari so far, but there remains three rounds left in this season and there is still room for improvement says Michael.
“This year’s total package is perfect,” declared Michael. “The F2002 is phenomenal, including on fast tracks like this. But the good thing about racing is that there is always room to improve and that applies to me to.”
With so little competition this race and in many other races this season Michael was asked if it is hard for him to remain fully concentrated in such events. In the past we have seen small errors from Michael when well out in front. Schumacher admits its hard at the end when driving it home, but in the early stages he was giving it 100% and having the most fun he could have!
“It is difficult towards the end, when you have to slow down and just manage your lead, because there is no point in taking any risks. But in the early stages, it was fun as I gave 100%.”
