Speaking at the presentation, John Wills said:
" In 1951, José Froilán González, the man I have the honour of standing alongside today made history by winning the British Grand Prix. His Ferrari won that race with the help of Shell technology. Two weeks ago and fifty-one years later, Michael Schumacher won the Belgian Grand Prix marking Shell and Ferrari’s 100th victory together, a milestone we are celebrating here today.
In 1951, Shell saw in Ferrari the fastest, most technologically advanced test-bed in the world. If Shell’s products could power Ferrari to victory in the demanding world of Formula One, there would be enormous benefits for drivers of road cars.
The same is still true today. The Shell fuels and lubricants available worldwide have been developed and tested with Ferrari, resulting in astounding advancements in the development of road car products. The fuel in Michael’s F2002 is very similar to fuel available all over the world at our forecourts, passing our success on the race track onto motorists.
As well as helping Ferrari to clean up on the track, Shell is also helping to clean up the environment. By working closely with Ferrari, Shell is able to lead the fuel industry in producing fuels that burn more efficiently and are thus more environmentally friendly, drastically reducing world-wide emissions."
