Rubens Barrichello has given some advice to Giancarlo Fisichella about keeping his motivation while not being able to win. Quite why Barrichello has spoken about this is a mystery but Barrichello seems keen to give Giancarlo hope for the future. Fisichella was in talks with Ferrari prior to Rubens signing his new deal with the Scuderia.

Barrichello is no stranger to frustration in F1 but Fisichella is another who has never really had the chance to shine in a top team, despite finishing second 5 times the Italian driver has yet to win a race. His best chance was at the Nurburgring in 1999 but he spun off while leading the race.

"He feels the same as I did a few years ago. He almost won Hockenheim in 1997 with a Jordan and it was so early,” said Rubens. “I had the same thoughts at my third race at Donington, if anything happened to Senna I thought I could win but it didn't happen. But all of a sudden things change and you go from team to team and things get better.

"I know Giancarlo is very focussed. I kept my determination and kept telling myself my day would come, that whatever was needed I would do. If I had to jump out of the eighth floor window I would do it to get a win in Formula One. It took me a very long time to drive a competitive car and once I was in one I won my 11th competitive race. Giancarlo just has to keep his patience."

"When you race in Formula 3000 for example you have equal cars, so one day or another you are going to punch in that victory. But in F1 the distance from Ferrari to Jordan is too great and you lose a little bit of your motivation. I'd advise him to keep his motivation and keep driving fast. It took me seven years to get in a competitive car - a hell of a long time."
