The BMW-Williams duo is next; Ralf Schumacher (1’09”216) ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya (1’09”288.) Apart from the Anglo-German squad, the rest of the top six are all on Bridgestone tyres, which at the moment appear to be dominant on a track where the French tyre company was expected to be much closer in terms of performance.

In fifth place is Heinz-Harald Frentzen (1’09”426) confirming that the Arrows team seems to be making progress over the past couple of races. Rounding off the top six is the Ferrari powered Sauber of Felipe Massa with a time of 1’09”526.

Once again today, the Ferrari duo racked up a high mileage, completing a total of 74 laps; 42 for Schumacher and ten less for Barrichello. Both men concentrated on fine tuning the balance of the F2002 in qualifying trim, making small adjustments to both the mechanical and aerodynamic set-up.
