At the end of a tough grand prix, which is often the case in Canada, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro Technical Director Ross Brawn was very happy with the team’s work this afternoon.

“I am very proud to be part of the team here to celebrate Ferrari’s 150th win,” he said. “As for the race, at the beginning we were not quite sure what Montoya’s strategy was. Seeing he was on a two stop, Michael was then able to control the race.”

Brawn’s only disappointment was caused by the Safety Car. “Rubens’ race was compromised when the Safety Car came out, but looking at the time gap we decided not to call him in at that point for a stop as he would have come out very far back on the track,” he explained. “But for the Safety Car, Rubens could have finished second. We ran our drivers on two different tyre compounds. Rubens is very good at overtaking which is why we put him on a two stop and until the SC it was working well.”

Both Ferrari drivers slowed their pace in the final stages and according to Brawn this was simply a safety measure. “This track is very hard on brakes and Michael had to use his hard in the early part,” he said. “We were okay but right on the limit, which is what racing is all about.” Once again, the Englishman had been impressed with Schumacher’s race winning drive. “Given that he was on a one stop, it was impressive that Michael could keep up with Montoya and Rubens, considering his fuel load,” concluded the Technical Director.
