This Friday is the start of one of the longest F1 weeks of the season, given that after three days of track action in France, the whole circus moves immediately to Hockenheim, as there is only one week separating the French and German Grands Prix.

It is a tough schedule, not helped by the fact that it is always very hot at these two races, which is draining on the physical condition of not only the drivers, but also the mechanics who work so hard.

However, after “winter” in Silverstone a fortnight ago, everyone in the paddock is pleased to see the sunshine again, which is due to stay for the whole weekend in Magny-Cours.

The dry conditions will help the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro engineers to confirm the performance of the new aerodynamic package fitted to the F2002, which includes new front and rear wings.

Running this package for the first time at a race weekend is the only new factor during what will be the usual Friday routine; identifying which of the two types of Bridgestone tyre is most suited to the track and working on finding the right balance on the cars for Sunday’s race.
