Today’s qualifying at Magny-Cours for the French GP was a thrilling spectacle. Michael Schumacher had fun, and the fact that he failed to match Juan Pablo Montoya’s time by just 23 hundredths of a second was not enough to dent his good mood.

Asked if track conditions deteriorated as the temperature rose, Michael replied: “As we can see, the time improved throughout the session, which means the rise in temperature did not have a negative effect. However, we must wait and see what the weather brings tomorrow.”
Michael was also asked if his daughter Gina Maria had once again given him a lucky charm to help him take the title. “I don’t think my daughter knows I can become World Champion tomorrow,” he replied. “But I can tell you she normally crosses her fingers for me during the races. She will be doing it as usual tomorrow.”
