Modena have only this season gained promotion to the lucrative Serie A and with Michael Schumacher always in the area he had asked if he could train with the team. It was an offer that Modena took up and Michael will train as and when he wishes with the squad and is likely to participate in some friendly matches for the team.

Schumacher used to play for Echichens, a team of amateurs in the Swiss divisions. Michael’s previous coach will miss the footballing talents of Michael but has no fears with him going to such a higher league. "Michael has great talent," he said. "He has a fantastic feeling for the ball and was one of our key players."

Modena’s manager said, "You cannot turn down such a request. We are proud and glad to have Michael in our squad."
