A two week ban on testing means that the F1 teams have had somewhat of a holiday in the period between the last race in Germany and this one in Hungary, the teams are allowed to shakedown the cars for the race this week and that’s what Luca Badoer will be doing on Monday at Fiorano, but only 50km will be available to the teams choosing to do this.

Heading to Hungary the Ferrari team are looking to secure the 2002 constructor’s title, with the drivers championship already in the bag all focus is on scoring maximum points for the team. And for Rubens Barrichello in the bid to make him 2nd in the drivers title come the end of the season.

Michael Schumacher may have the title won but his race winning desire remains the same and he too will be out to win here once again. The tight and twisty Hungaroring is very much like Monaco without the glamour and walls. So qualifying is going to be a crucial decider in this race. Bridgestone will be bringing a new improved tyre to this venue with qualifying in mind. They do not want to be caught out by Michelin as they did in Monaco!

Hungary is a challenging track and hard on the cars as well as the drivers. Last season it was a Ferrari 1-2 and it played host to the winning of the 2001 title by Michael Schumacher. Both Ferrari drivers are pretty good around here with Barrichello’s best result coming last season with his second place, but he also scored a great 3rd place here with the Stewart team way back in 1999. And he will be hoping to once again challenge Michael on Saturday for the pole position which would give him a good advantage in the race where overtaking is sparse.

Schumacher also shares a good record on this circuit, his win in 98 with a blistering 3-stop strategy was one of his best ever race wins in his illustrious career. Driving on the limit for so long to take a breathtaking win out of the hands of the stunned McLaren team. 3 times the German has won in Hungary and he will as eager as ever to add to that total come race day. However he has suffered some of his worst races on this track but with the F2002 being so strong on every circuit it should be no problem for the world champion to win this race.
