Day two of the
AT&T Williams Barcelona test would see Rubens Barrichello return to the
track and his first effort would be a 1m:32.168. Lap five and he would set a
1m:27.032 followed by lap eight he was down to a 1m:26.910. Alonso would
cause the first red flag stopping at Turn Four. His car would be brought
back on the back of a truck. Rubens had returned to his pit but would come
back out for a longer run setting laps in the 1m:30s and 1m:31s.
Alguersuari would go fastest with a 1m:25.964 as Rubens completed twenty
laps. The Torro Rosso driver would find a few tenths to lower his quickest
time to a 1m:25.947. After completing a nine lap run Rubens would pit. It
was reported that if Bahrain is cancelled that there would be a further test
planned. Alonso would return to the track after his team fixed an electrical
problem. He would set a 1m:25.908 followed by a 1m:25.438. Rubens had
dropped to fourth behind Vettel who had set a 1m:25.849 followed by a
1m:26.158.
Rubens would return to the track at around 9:30AM. On his third lap out
Rubens would set a 1m:26.595 finding a few tenths, but he would remain
fourth. His next lap was a 1m:26.093 that would see him now third. Alonso
would also improve with a 1m:25.299. It was another longer run for Rubens as
Di Resta moved up to second, 1m:25.859. Rubens was now fourth and back in
the pits. Rubens would again return to the track and he would set a
1m:24.264 followed by a 1m:24.624. That was 1.35 ahead of Alonso. On this
series of laps Rubens was setting times in the 1m:24s, 1m:25s, and then
1m:26s. Rubens would complete forty four laps and then pit again.
Rubens would again return to the track and on his second lap back out would
set a 1m:24.126 followed by a 1m:24.867. This time he would complete ten
laps prior to pitting again. He would average around the mid 1m:26s. Again
after a short break Rubens was back out while Vettel would go fastest with a
1m:23.410. Rubens had again lowered his quickest time with a 1m:24.042 on
the second lap of his current run. His next series of laps would see him go
from the 1m:25s to the 1m:28s, possibly suggesting that he was on the softer
tyre. Vettel would improve his time with a 1m:23.315 to be 0.7 seconds ahead
of Rubens. Rosberg was now third followed by Di Resta and Alonso. Rubens had
completed sixty six laps in the morning session.
After the midday break Rubens would come back out and his times were well
off the pace that he had shown in the morning. His first lap was in the
1m:28s followed by a series of laps ranging from 1m:31s to 1m:38s. It was
confirmed that the Williams team were running with KERS on the FW33. Rubens
would then drop down to laps in the 1m:29s. Despite a red flag caused by Di
Resta going off Rubens would continue a very long run completing twelve
laps. He would pit followed a short time after by Vettel who was suppose to
be on a race simulation but was to have a problem with his car.
With just over an hour remaining Rubens was still in the Williams pit. Just
before 3PM and Rubens was back out with his first lap a 1m:32.521. This was
followed by a 1m:29.446. His next series of laps were in the 1m:29s and
1m:30s. While on this run Rubens would complete his 100th lap of the day.
This would be a longer run for Rubens starting in the 1m29s and dropping off
to the 1m:35s. After fifteen laps Rubens would pit, with just over half an
hour left in the day.
On his final run
for the day Rubens would see his second fastest time beaten by several
drivers with Alguersuari second and Alonso third. Rubens would set a time of
1m:24.008 that would see him fourth at the end of the afternoon session.
Sam Michael,
Technical Director: It has been another good day of running
concentrating on KERS, setup work, long runs and starts, and weve had no
mechanical issues with the Williams Cosworth driveline. Most of the parts on
the car now have done quite a few miles so we're pushing into that zone
where you can have high mileage failures. We need to do it now though to
avoid failures on race weekends. We're learning more about the Pirelli tyres
and how to extract the most out of them - there's definitely going to be
some tricks to that this year! Right now the rate of performance development
is high for all teams, so it's not possible to put any real indicators on
pace order.
Rubens
Barrichello: We had a very productive day completing 118 laps which has
helped make up for the time we lost yesterday. Today was the first time I
was able to use KERS, running with it activated for about 75% of the day so
I am feeling happy. We also did some longer runs and I feel we are getting
better prepared with everything ready for the start of the season.
AT&T Williams
will be back on track tomorrow, Sunday 20 February, with Pastor Maldonado in
the FW33 for the third day of the test..
