Day three of the Williams F1 teams Barcelona test and it was Bruno Senna
behind the wheel. Bruno would complete a handful of untimed laps as part of
his installation laps. After a short break he was back out and setting times
in the 1m:24s and 1m:25s, pitting again after completing six timed laps,
running on the hard tyre. One lap was a 1m:24.256 followed by a 1m:24.058 to
see him quickest at this time. So far he had completed thirteen laps in
total. After a twenty minute break Bruno would come out for one timed lap,
1m:28.758 before pitting again. After a ten minute break Bruno was again out
on the track and on his final lap prior to pitting would set a 1m:23.244.
His time was set on the hard tyre.
A further ten minutes and Bruno would return setting two timed laps, the
quickest of the two been a 1m:23.264. Bruno had completed twenty five laps
with two hours of the session run and was currently second in the overall
times behind Massa who had set a 1m:22.413 running on the super soft tyre.
Bruno's next run would be a quick two laps with both of his laps in the
1m:23s. He would pit after a ten minute stop he was back out this time
running on the super softs. His use of these tyres would be reflected in his
laps times when he would set a 1m:22.480 on his first lap. He would complete
another lap, 1m:25.508, before pitting again. He would return again running
on the super soft tyre appearing to be practicing a qualifying run. His time
would be a 1m:22.624, before pitting after one timed lap. This would be the
last that Bruno would run prior to the lunch time break.
As the teams completed their morning runs it would be Perez who was fastest
with a 1m:22.094 from Ricciardo, Massa, Di Resta, and Bruno now fifth.
Perez's time was set on the soft tyre as other teams looked at qualifying
runs. With the lunch break completed
Bruno was back out, running on soft tyres, on a longer run. His times would
be in the 1m:30s and 1m:31s. He would complete eleven laps with his later
times in the 1m:32s. He would take to the pit lane but would continue his
run setting an initial time of 1m:29.943 followed by times in the 1m:30s.
After completing a further fourteen laps Bruno's times would drop off into
the 1m:31s and 1m:34s. He had completed sixty eight laps at this time. He
would pit and take on new tyres which would see his times would drop back
into the 1m:28s and then the 1m:29s. Bruno was not the only one doing a
longer run with Di Resta, Perez, and Ricciardo all out on the track.
Bruno would continue his run setting times in the 1m:29s for six laps but
his times would drop off into the 1m:30s. As Bruno completed further laps
his times would fall off into the 1m:31s. He had completed eight eight laps
at this point. Bruno would pit again returning to the track running on what
was believed to be mediums despite the fact that the tyres had no markings.
His times would fall back down to the 1m:27s for the next seven laps but in
his final two laps his times would fall to the 1m:32s and 1m:31s. With one
hundred laps completed Bruno would pit seeing him end this long run. But
conditions would change with light rain starting to fall. After a fifteen
minute stop in his pit Bruno would come back out with his times initially in
the 1m:44s but they would drop into the 1m:43s. With forty five minutes
remaining not a lot would be learnt given the conditions. Bruno's times
would rise to now be in the 1m:51s followed by a lap in the 1m:40s.
But the session would be red flagged and the cause would be Bruno stopping
at Turn 10. His car would be returned to the pits by the usual flatbed
truck. It would be later confirmed that Bruno's stoppage was caused by an
electrical problem. of this Bruno said: "We had a small issue with the
electronics again. The car has been running its fair share of kilometres,
and sometimes one or two systems decide they've had enough. It was a small
issue, nothing to worry about."
Mark Gillan, Chief Operations Engineer: We had a productive day's
testing today, with Bruno completing 111 laps without issue. We concentrated
on aerodynamic testing this morning prior to moving onto a race simulation.
At the end of the race simulation, it
started to rain and we reverted from dry tyres on to intermediates.
Bruno Senna: Today was a very good day. We completed some runs on
lower fuel, which I hadnt done before, using all the different tyre
compounds. I was then able to do a full race simulation this afternoon, to
learn more about the car and tyres in a race situation. We have a lot of
valuable information to look at now, which will enable us to improve for
next time. Unfortunately we had to cut our race simulation a bit short due
to the rain, however we still met all our objectives for the day.
The Williams F1 Team will be back on track tomorrow, Sunday 4 March, with
Bruno Senna driving in the morning session and Pastor Maldonado driving the
afternoon session for the final day of pre-season testing. |
