As a result of a
pass carried out by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel
on McLaren's Jenson Button during the German Grand Prix, Vettel was handed a
penalty for his overtaking move.
Vettel had passed Button for second with less than two
laps to go but in doing so ran wide and off the track at the exit of the hairpin.
According to race stewards
Vettel's move was illegal. As a result they imposed a
post-race drive-through penalty seeing twenty seconds have been
added to Vettel's finishing time. Vettel would drop to fifth and Raikkonen
would move into third
"Car 1 left the track and gained an advantage when he rejoined. Breach of
article 20.2 of the FIA Formula 1 sporting regulations," said the stewards.
"Drive-through penalty, imposed after the race in accordance with article
16.3 (20 seconds added to the elapsed race time."
