United States GP: FP2 Positions unchanged for ROKiT Williams

The second Friday practice session for the 2019 United States Grand Prix would see the ROKiT Williams teams positions in the order remain unchanged with the pair again slowest. George Russell had returned and would finish ahead of team-mate Robert Kubica by 0.5s. Both drivers would work through their usual Friday programme with soft tyre runs followed by longer runs. Both drivers would again use the 2020 development Pirelli tyre.

Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session for the 2019 United States Grand prix would see the 2020 Pirelli tyre being used and both Williams drivers first runs would be on this tyre. With the first runs it would be Leclerc fastest with a 1m:34.762 from Verstappen and Bottas all on the medium tyre. But the session would be red flagged when Grosjean would crash in the Turn 6 and six bends hitting the barrier and ending up at the side of the track. It would be cleared and the session would be restarted. Hamilton was now third with just over an hour remaining. Bottas was fourth but Albon would move ahead seeing Bottas fifth. The Williams drivers were just 0.115 after their opening laps but were slowest.

Hamilton would move up to second but was on the hard tyre. The order after thirty minutes was Leclerc, Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas, Albon, Vettel, Kvyat, Grosjean, Ricciardo, and Sainz tenth. But Norris would move into tenth using the medium tyre while Sainz was on the hard. On soft tyre runs it would be Hamilton quickest with a 1m:33.232 followed by Leclerc and Vettel but Leclerc was still on the medium tyre. Bottas was fourth followed by Gasly, Verstappen, Giovinazzi, Kvyat, Hulkenberg and Albon tenth. Ricciardo was able to move into eighth behind Giovinazzi. Stroll was now eight after a soft tyre run with Perez 14th. Verstappen was now third behind Leclerc.

With under fifteen minutes remaining and the only car not on the track was Grosjean. All three tyres were been used from the hard through to the medium and soft all on longer runs. With the end of the session it would be Hamilton quickest from Leclerc, Verstappen, Vettel, Bottas, Albon, Gasly, Sainz, Stroll, and Giovinazzi tenth. For Williams they were again slowest with George leading Robert by 0.534s. Both drivers would be able to complete a full session combining that with some running on the 2020 development tyres. But once again they were a considerable margin behind the cars in front.

Robert Kubica:
Robert was also on the 2020 tyre and was able to set a 1m:38.538 to be slowest of the twenty cars. Robert would improve with a 1m:38.326 to move ahead of his team-mate. He would pit after this run. Robert would return on the soft tyre and would set a 1m:37.333 to remain slowest. Robert would also pit after his soft tyre run having completed six laps. Robert would return with twenty seven minutes remaining but was now on the 2020 tyre. But he would pit after a single lap returning quickly. Robert would switch to the medium tyre for what would be a longer run. He would complete twelve laps on the medium tyre with the end of the session.

George Russell:
George would be running the 2020 development tyre and would set a 1m:38.423. George would come onto his radio telling his engineer that there was no bite from the brakes. George would find a few tenths with a 1m:38.405 and would pit. George would return this time on teh soft tyre and would set a 1m:36.749 to move into 18th, dropping to 19th. Russell would pit after a five lap run finishing just 0.089 behind Perez. With just over thirty minutes remaining and George would return for another soft tyre run. George would say that he heard a noise coming from the gearbox as he left the pit lane. He would complete only a few laps on the soft tyre switching to the hard tyre for a longer run. With the end of the session George would complete fourteen laps on the hard tyre.
