Team Summary:
After an encouraging final practice session for the 2020 Austrian GP where
the Williams Racing Team would see George Russell finish in 16th both George
and Nicholas Latifi would commence the first qualifying session of the 2020
F1 season. the first period would see Giovinazzi setting a 1m:05.478 to be
quickest. Stroll would move ahead with a 1m:04.678 as the track started to
fill with more drivers. Verstappen was now quickest with a 1m:04.326
followed by Sainz and Perez. Vettel was now fourth with everyone on the soft
tyre. Bottas only fourth and Hamilton 14th, but Hamilton had made a mistake.
Hamilton would move up into second ahead of Sainz.
Stroll would go quickest but others would improve with Verstappen quickest
with a 1m:04.024. The final runs would see Bottas second followed by
Hamilton, Stroll, Leclerc, Sainz, Perez, Vettel, Ricciardo, and Gasly tenth.
At the end of the session the Williams drivers would finish in 17th and 20th
with George ahead of Nicholas. But the Williams team can now claim that they
are not the slowest car.
The second period of qualifying would see Hamilton fastest with a 1m:03.325
from Bottas and Norris. But the times would fall as Bottas went quickest
with a 1m:03.105 from Hamilton, Albon, Norris, Perez, Stroll, Sainz,
Verstappen Ricciardo and Leclerc in tenth. Vettel was in 11th and out of
qualifying. The final period of qualifying would see the first runs with
Bottas remaining quickest with a 1m:02.939 followed by Hamilton, Verstappen
Albon, Sainz, Perez and Leclerc. The second runs would see Bottas remain
fastest from Hamilton, Verstappen, Norris, Albon, Perez, Leclerc, Sainz,
Stroll and Ricciardo tenth. |
