Portuguese GP: Positive FP2 from Williams Racing

October 24 2020

The second friday practice session for the 2020 Portuguese GP would see the Williams Racing Team come away with what was an improvement over their FP1 results. George Russell would finish the session in 11th while team-mate Nicholas Latifi was in 14th. George was able to set his time on the medium tyre but for Nicholas his was on the soft. But the session was impacted by two red flags which would limit the amount of track time the team could have in particular affecting their high fuel running as well as seeing several drivers who appeared to be out of position in terms of their times. George would come away from the session far happier than Nicholas who was still struggling finding a balance with his car.

Team Summary:
In a session that would be interrupted by two Red Flag periods the Williams Racing Team would come away with a very positive result from the second Friday practice session for the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix. At the end of the session George would finish in 11th and Nicholas 14th. The big difference was the fact that George had set his time on the medium tyre while Nicholas was on the soft tyre. The track was still proving to be difficult with lack of grip an issue seeing Nicholas comment about how hard it is to get a consistent feel with his car.

the start of the session would see all the team having to carry out tyre testing for Pirelli as they prepare for the 2021 season. The red Flags involved the incident when Gasly's car would catch fire while the other involved a crash between Stroll and Verstappen. These issues would see the Williams Team lose a considerable track time which would see them not get any real high fuel running. But to finish Friday with these positions is a great way to start the weekend for Williams.
