Team Summary:
The opening eighteen minute period would commence with the two Haas cars out
first followed by a Williams. More cars would come out with all on the soft
tyre except Gasly who was on the medium. This would include the second
Williams. Schumacher would set a time but it would be deleted as Mazepin set
a 1m:30.390 only to see Raikkonen quickest with a 1m:23.717 followed by both
Williams. After more laps were set it would be Sainz quickest with a
1m:23.323 followed by Leclerc and Vettel. Only nine times had been set as we
had Perez now quickest but Norris would move ahead only to see Hamilton
quickest with a 1m:22.019. Verstappen was now second followed by Norris and
Bottas. Tsunoda was now fifth while after their second laps the Williams
cars were 13th and 14th.
This would become 15th and 16th as we saw Bottas now quickest with a
1m:22.016 from Hamilton and Verstappen. Perez was now fourth but all would
change as Verstappen went quickest with a 1m:21.996. Both Williams were out
on their second set of soft tyres and they would improve to be tenth and
14th. With the end of the session drivers were completing their final flying
laps and we would have Hamilton quickest from Verstappen, Bottas, Sainz,
Perez, Alonso, Tsunoda, Gasly, Vettel, and Stroll tenth. The Williams
drivers would finish in 15th and 17th.
The remaining Williams would be first out in Q2 while we would see the
majority of drivers coming out on the medium tyre. Neither Alpine of Aston
Martin were running as as had a Williams quickest but then we would see
Hamilton quickest with a 1m:21.682 followed by Bottas and Tsunoda.
Verstappen would move into second but Gasly would move into this spot. Now
we had both Alpines and Aston Martins running using the soft tyre. Gasly had
been able to move into second using the soft tyre. Verstappen was third
followed by Bottas, Tsunoda, Alonso, Ocon, Sainz, Vettel, and Stroll tenth.
More drivers would return but this time using the soft tyre and we would see
the period end with Hamilton fastest with a 1m:21.682 followed by Gasly,
Alonso, Verstappen, Bottas, Ocon, Tsunoda, Vettel, Norris and Sainz tenth.
Quite a few of these drivers had to switch from the medium to the soft to
ensure making it into Q3.
The final period would commence and after the first soft tyre runs it would
be Hamilton quickest from Verstappen with Bottas third. Gasly was fourth
followed by Alonso, Sainz, Norris, Tsunoda, Ocon and Vettel tenth. The order
would remain after their second runs seeing Hamilton remain quickest from
Verstappen and Bottas. Gasly would suffer a tyre puncture after he ran over
the kerbs and damaged his front wing which would impact on the tyre. For
Williams their qualifying had ended with their cars in 15th and 17th. Based
on their practice pace it is very much an expected result. Their main rivals
Alfa Romeo were 16th and 18th so Sundays race was going to be mainly in
regard to keeping them in check. |
