Coming from the frustrations of the Singapore GP the Williams Team is again aiming to gain the maximum from the upgraded FW48. There are the&nbsp;uncertainties of whether the FW48 will suit the COTA circuit but as in previous races the team will&nbsp; work on achieving the best performance. Carlos would make an excellent start that saw him in the top ten but very early in the race he would suffer from technical issues that would see him lose places. After this it came down to the usual issue of having a car that simply lacked the pace in the race to fight with the other midfield teams. For Alex he would suffer from brake issues and it was decided to retire his car late in the race simply to save the car. Overall a frustrating race which again saw the team suffer from a poor performing FW48. The big question for the team will be whether they can find more performance from the car as we draw close to the season's end. The Sprint would see Carlos Sainz finish in 12th but for Alex Albon he would retire after suffering damage after being involved in a collision with another car. Then qualifying would be a far more positive session for the team with Carlos making it into Q2 and would finish in 14th. Alex would only manage 18th having to contend with a car that was not at its best after the crash in the Sprint. It was overall a far better result than what the team had achieved after Sprint Qualifying. Sunday's race will be a difficult one given the difficulties in passing but both Carlos and Alex will give it their best. Alex would finish in 19th and Carlos 22nd. Across the FP session prior to the qualifying session the team would have various issues to contend with which would add to their difficulties in Sprint Qualifying. But then reports would come from both Carlos and Alex about a loss of engine power during their runs in SQ1 which added on top of their own car issues made their final sprint qualfying runs that much more difficult. It was later confirmed that the FIA had disabled Overtake mode as a result of a Red Flag during SQ1 but had failed to turn it back on and only saw their mistake with a small amount of time remaining. This would impact both Williams cars.&nbsp;The FIA acknowledged that their mistake but they did not establish whether this mistake would have changed which drivers progressed to SQ2. It is hoped that the nature of the Singapore circuit may suit the FW48 better than what we saw in the last race at Sepang. It is also hoped that both Carlos and Alex can have event free races given the frustrations they had in the last race with Carlos being spun by another car and for Alex a retirement with a gearbox failure. It was a race that would see the team suffer quite a few issues which would impact their race. The race would be delayed after confusion during the first formation lap with a wet track and at the restart both Carlos and Alex would make the right tyre choice seeing them running inside the top ten. But as the race progressed the first of the issues would see Carlos spun round after being hit by another car. This saw him drop well down the order seeing any chance of a good result disappear. Add on to this there were issues with having to double stack during a pit stop, Alex have issues with his car including his brakes and then the gearbox failure. But the biggest issue still was the overall lack of performance from the upgraded FW48 that would hamper both drivers pace. Overall Sepang was a race that started well but faded away quickly for the&nbsp;Atlassian Williams F1 Team. For Alex his session was very different with Alex only managing 20th and failed to get out of Q1. For the Williams F1 Team this is the second race with their upgrade and somewhat lighter FW48. The previous race in Azerbaijan had seen the upgraded chassis show some promise but the big test will be how it fares in another track of a very different nature. The performances not only in the race but across the whole race weekend were in large part vindication of the massive effort that the team had put in to bring an upgraded FW48 to the event. The fact that the team was able to see a qualifying Q3 result as well as the point in the race showed that the updates that had being brought were working. Yes still a way to go to develop the new car but still so pleasing to see that the team is now back in the fight with the other midfield teams. Unfortunately the only negative aspect of the race was the DNF of Alex Albon who would crash into the barriers. Next stop Sepang where all being well the team will be able to again produce some noteworthy results. For the first time in a considerable time the team saw one of their drivers, Carlos, make it into Q3, a significant achievement. It showed that the teams hard work was producing the desired results and that everyone at Williams should be very happy with their efforts and that the team is making the necessary steps forward. Unfortunately Carlos was to receive a 5 place grid penalty that will see him drop behind Alex on the grid with Alex starting 12th and Carlos 14th. The team had been able to bring with them a new chassis built using a new production process that has seen the team, for the first time in 2026, being able to run with ballast to bring their car up to the minimum weight. The team also updated several areas of the car including the front and rear brake ducts plus parts of the floor including changed intake channels. The question was how well would this updated car perform. Both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon commented that the car was a step in the right direction but that it was very early in the process of getting the best from it. Hopefully Saturday practice will give a better indication of where the car is at. The race will mark the arrival of an updated FW48, which has been the subject of much discussion. It is hoped that the updates car can see a step forward in helping return the team to being a competiive one again after a lenghty run of races where both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon struggled. Reports have the team arriving with a new chassis which is aimed at reducing the weight of the FW48 back down to the weight limits. That it itself would help find time with the car but it won't be until after the Thursday practice that the team will have a true assessment as to how the cars performance has been improved. On top of this Carlos would receive a 5 second penalty for an incident involving Alonso. It was another tough race for the team and drivers as they continue to struggle with the FW48. Hopefully in the next race at Baku the team will see some improvements with the arrival of an upgraded car. Both Alex and Carlos are keen to see the updated cars arrival. So very frustrating but both drivers are going to work to achieve a good result. For Carlos he will start from 20th after receiving a penalty for impeding. Whether the team can make some progress going into Saturday is far from certain.
