Jock Clear's involvement with motor racing goes back to 1988, when the freshly qualified young mechanical engineer joined Lola Cars as a design draftsman. The following year he moved to the Benetton F1 team as Head of Composite Design.

Jock then spent time at Leyton House and Lotus as a Senior Designer, before he moved into race engineering, initially with Johnny Herbert at Lotus.

He moved to Williams F1 in 1994 as race engineer to David Coulthard, before assuming responsibility for Jacques Villeneuve, who stormed to the 1997 FIA Formula one World Drivers' Championship.

Villeneuve left the Williams team at the end of the 1998 season to join British American Racing, the team set up by close friend and former manager, Craig Pollock. Jock moved to the new team with Villeneuve, embarking upon a further five years of collaboration as his Senior Race Engineer.

For the 2004 season, Jock forged a new partnership with Takuma Sato, who made the step up from test driver to Jenson Button's teammate. Following a successful 2004 season which saw Takuma achieve his first podium at Indianapolis, Jock continued in his role as Takuma's Senior Race Engineer in 2005.

For 2006 Jock moves to engineer new team member Rubens Barrichello, hoping to bring the Brazilian driver the race wins he is used to.

Jock has also been responsible for developing and heading up the team's Human Performance and Young Driver Programmes.
