According to reports in the media, the Campos team is still uncertain of their stance in terms of finance and Teixeira’s choice for the seat would be the 2009 A1GP Champion Carroll who drove for team Ireland.

The speculation about the Campos Team’s finances has been rumbling on for many weeks with Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone adding his name to the list of worriers concerning USF1 and Campos.

The Irishman has also been linked with the Manor Virgin Team but they confirmed that German Timo Glock and Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi would be their 2010 driver pairing.

Adam Carroll started his motor racing career in 1993 where he competed in karting events. His karting days carried on until 1999 and in 2000 he went on to win the British Formula Ford Winter Series. He moved on to the British Formula Ford competition in 2001 which was another stepping stone that led him to British Formula Three in 2002. The Irishman dominated the B-Class and claimed a points tally record on his way to the title.

Carroll moved into the Championship Class British Formula Three but there were problems. Carroll’s career has been a story about a lack of financial backing which has hindered his career progression. He ended up driving for three different teams before he competed in a part of the Formula Three Euroseries season. He finished in the points in his first race. His team mate was Nico Rosberg who is now a Mercedes driver in Formula One.

In 2005 he moved up into Formula One’s feeder series: GP2. He began on a championship charge and many thought that he was going to be a strong contender right through until the end but poor reliability and incidents on the track meant that he fell out of contention.

2006 saw more financial problems for the young Irishman and he dropped out of the sport completely before going into DTM in 2007. His stint here was also short lived for the same reason as his GP2 career: finances.

In 2008/2009 Carroll joined A1GP team Ireland and won the series with five race wins and three fastest laps.
