For the second time the AT&T Williams team would see one of their cars damaged, this time with Rosberg crashing at Barcelona. This would see the teams test at the Barcelona circuit come to an early end with the team having to cope with another FW29 that was extensively damaged.

The AT&T Williams team suffered another setback in testing on what was meant to be the third day of testing for the team when Nico was involved in a crash early in the day. This would see the teams test come to an end early. Nico was able to walk away from the accident but the right side of his car was totally destroyed. He was cleared by medical staff. This was the second time that the team was faced with a rebuild of the car. The first was on the Monday when Nakajima also crashed his car. Nico's car was damaged extensively with the front of the monocoque taking a major impact, when he left the track at Turn seven. The car also suffered rear, right rear damage in the accident. The Williams team were faced with the fact that this test which was to have seen them carry out their preparations for the Spanish Grand Prix actually achieved very little. But the team has tested at the circuit previously. Williams' Chief Operations Engineer Rod Nelson told autosport.com "Nico went on a kerb a bit too much just before the corner and there did not seem to be much rubber on that kerb, possibly from the rain yesterday, and that was it. His car swapped its ends and crashed into the wall. The bodywork is all finished and the monocoque we are looking at it now but does not look good either. AT&T Williams Test Team Manager Dickie Stanford commented: “Barcelona was not as productive a test for us as it might have been with two considerable accidents. Both Kazuki and Nico are fine. We had to stop the test earlier than planned due to the chassis damage we had on Wednesday morning. However, having tested at this track over the winter will help us prepare for the GP here next weekend." |
