In a fantastic result for the AT&T Williams team Nico Rosberg would finish qualifying for the 2007 Monaco GP in fifth. It was a great effort from the German with Nico being as high as third. As for team-mate Alex Wurz again he would struggle to match Nico's performance finishing in a disappointing eleventh. Nico's starting position gives him the chance of securing a good result for the team.

 Monaco GP Qualifying

The final practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix would produce an unusual result with Spyker's Adrian Sutil fastest. This was down to the changing conditions with the track been wet but drying during the session. Nico Rosberg was down in eighth while Alex was in seventeenth. Prior to the start of qualifying the track had dried but there was the chance of rain.

WurzQ1 would get underway with both Honda's coming out early. Alex was also out joined by several others including Nico. Both Red Bulls were out as Button started a flying lap. His time was a 1m:30.612. He was passed by Speed, 1m:19.978, and Sato. Alex was now third, 1m:21.113. Coulthard was now fastest, 1m:19.771 as Nico went faster, 1m:19.648. Both Alex and Nico would pit with six minutes left. Nico was now in sixth, 1m:17.674. Alex was in eleventh. Raikkonen would improve to be second, 1m:16.639. Albers was the only driver yet to set a time. Alonso would move ahead of Kimi with a 1m:16.470. Barrichello was now fifth followed by Heidfeld.

Hamilton was fastest in sector one and two. Most drivers were putting in two or three lap runs. Hamilton was faster with a 1m:15.685. Liuzzi was now fifth as Nico dropped to ninth. Alex was getting close to the cut off point been fifteenth. Nico and Alex were back out looking to improve. Hamilton would pit. With the final minutes counting down Coulthard would move to eighth, pushing Alex down to sixteenth. But Alex would pull himself up the order with a 1m:17.874 to be twelfth. Nico went even better moving in fifth, 1m:16.870. But with other drivers improving Alex was down in sixteenth.

The period would end and it would be Hamilton from Alonso, Raikkonen, Liuzzi, Massa, Nico, Coulthard, Barrichello, Button, and tenth was Heidfeld. Those not making the cut were Davidson, Speed, Sutil, Schumacher, Sato, and Albers.

Wurz with Jackie StewartWith Hamilton dominating Q1 and Nico finishing in a very encouraging fifth the second period would get underway. Based his Q1 time Alex will struggle to get into Q3. There was no rush of drivers coming out onto the circuit but it would be the Williams cars of Nico and Alex that would come out first. Both Ferrari's were also out joined by the Renault's. Nico would start his flying lap. His time was a 1m:16.100. Alex was second with a 1m:17.328 but Fisichella would move ahead and into second, 1m:16.464. Trulli was now third followed by Alex, Massa, Kimi would spin his car but was able to make it back to the pit lane.

Coulthard and Webber were fourth and fifth. Alex was in seventh. Kimi's car would understeer with broken steering. He had hit the barrier at the swimming pool. Massa was now second, 1m:16.393. Nico was still fastest. Alex was in eighth. But Hamilton would move ahead of Nico with a 1m:15.479. Button was in sixth. But Alonso would go even faster than Hamilton with a 1m:15.431. Nico was in third. Alex was down in eleventh. Barrichello was in seventh.

Kubica was now in third, 1m:15.845. Team-mate Heidfeld was in fifth as the BMW cars were the only one's out on the track. Alex was down in thirteenth. Nico was in fourth. Heidfeld would improve on his next lap with a 1m:16.080 to move ahead of Nico. Nico was now fifth. With just under four minutes left Alex would come back out. He was joined by Kovalainen. They were working franticly in the Ferrari pit trying to fix Kimi's damaged suspension. There was now a flood of drivers coming out with just minutes left. Nico was still in his garage, joined by both McLaren's. Alex's first lap would see him in ninth, 1m:16.662.

With the end of the period Nico had stayed in his garage. He would drop down to seventh as a result of Fisichella and Massa moving ahead of him. Alex would return to his pit having only managed twelfth fastest. Raikkonen would not return to the track. Those not making the cut were Button, Alex, Trulli, Kovalainen, and Raikkonen. The order at the front was Alonso, Hamilton, Kubica, Heidfeld, Massa, Fisichella, Nico, Coulthard, Webber, and finally Barrichello.

RosbergHamilton would line up at the exit to the pit lane waiting for the green light to start Q3. Out they would go but the news came that Coulthard was been penalised for failing to allow Kovalainen to pass him in Q2. Button had taken Coulthard's place in the final period.

They would start their process of burning off fuel. Nico was last out onto the track. The first time was set by Hamilton with a 1m:15.905. The feeling was that with the drivers having to use the super soft tyres in the race that it would be surprising to see a single stop strategy for the race. Based on this expect the drivers to be very light come the time in Q3 that they look to set their quickest times.

Several drivers would pit, including Hamilton, Heidfeld, and Massa. Nico has also made an early stop. Kubica and Alonso would pit. Hamilton was still fastest followed by Alonso, Massa, Nico, Heidfeld, and Kubica. Seven minutes remaining.

Nico would pit. Fisichella was now in fourth and would also pit. Alonso would improve with a 1m:15.977 but was still second. Four minutes remaining and Nico was in eighth. But Nico was on a quick lap, as was Button and Webber. Hamilton would pit, joined by Alonso. Webber was now in fifth but Nico was now third, 1m:16.525, pushing the Red Bull down one place. Fisichella was now third pushing Nico down to fourth. Massa and Webber would pit with two minutes remaining. Nico was also in.

Heidfeld was fifth followed by Massa. Nico was back out as Hamilton went fastest in the first sector. The final minute would count down with Nico in fourth. Hamilton would fail to improve as Alonso went faster with a 1m:15.726. Nico would set a personal best in sector one. Massa was now in third and Nico fifth. Webber was in sixth. Nico would fail to improve seeing him remain in fifth. It was an on the limit drive from Nico nearly hitting the barriers through the swimming pool. So with the end of Q3 the order was Alonso from Hamilton, Massa, Fisichella, Nico, Webber, Heidfeld, Kubica, Barrichello, and Button. A fantastic effort from Nico. Alex would move up to be in eleventh when Coulthard was dropped to sixteenth as a result of his penalty.
