And I am pleased he was. The stewards did not deem it something they needed to get involved with either. I just hope that there are no repercussions on the track. When I saw Lewis tuck in behind his former team mate and arch enemy, I thought that it might all end in tears, with either one of the drivers doing something stupid to get rid of the other. Who’s to say that they might not take each other in races to come if they do not control themselves?
Jenson Button met a sticky end due to, in his opinion, David Coulthard turning in on him as he took the racing line in trying to overtake the Red Bull Racing car. Again, the stewards appear not to want to investigate and I am sure the two drivers will meet afterwards to calmly discuss the issue between themselves.
That is what Formula 1 should always be about. Get the racing done, and when the dust had settled, if issues have arisen, discuss it quietly behind closed doors. McLaren have got better things to thing about. Hamilton could only manage thirteenth today, but even before the Alonso incident his start had been exceptionally poor and he had fallen back to tenth.
Kovalainen was nowhere near matching, let alone beating the pace of the BMW’s. We go to Barcelona in three weeks with BMW being Ferrari’s main competitors, not McLaren. The team have a lot of work to do in this little break. I feel sure they will rise to the challenge. If nothing else, it looks like this is going to be one of the closest, most exciting seasons we have seen in a long time.
