I did notice that and wondered whether to correct it myself. I guess the limit of the engine is still 19,000 even though it is electronically limited to 18,000.
These specs are identical to last years. Everything in the engine spec except the manufacturer, fuel and oil could be lifted from the regulations.
Really this could be the "spec" for almost any car on the grid if you discount the brand names of suppliers like Elf and OZ. Nice headline but no news.
Lol, I also agree to that Sonny. I was reading thinking, what does this tell me???
Then I thought, maybe we will not get the upgraded Renault donk given it says 2006... I really hope they have not dusted off all their 3 year old engines for us.

What determines which fuel brand is better? I mean, I know certain Engines work best with certain brands (Hence why both Renault and RBR use Elf for the Renault Engine) - but is there a noticable difference between Elf and, say, Shell?
The French engine uses the French gas and oil because the French petroleum company participated with the French engine maker to maximize the design. As a result the engines come with a clause that requires that they use only the French petroleum company's Elf gas and oil.
if the elf company was financially involved in the design of the engine or it was a contractual clause in the elf sponsorship then that is clearly obvious.
what is your source for your conclusions.
"A new 3 year technical partnership has been signed between Total and the ING Renault F1 Team. Through Formula One, the Total Group believes that its everyday challenges of building brand values and increasing brand awareness will be accomplished throughout the world.
A little History: Through the Elf brand, Total in Formula One has won 154 races and 19 world titles since 1968. With Renault, it has won 106 races, rewarded by 6 World Driver Championship crowns (4 with Renault engines for the Williams and Benetton teams, 2 with the Renault F1 team) and 7 World Manufacturer titles (5 with Renault engines for the Williams and Benetton teams and 2 with the Renault F1 team).
Common values: Drilling a deep offshore well in 1800m of water off the coast of West Africa requires the same values as winning a F1 Grand Prix: a fantastic team spirit, the best available technology backed by a strong R&D research centre, high safety regulations and the best technicians with one common goal, discover oil or win the race with full respect for the environment.
The technical partnership between the ING Renault F1 Team and Total is exemplary. Based on continuous dialogue and excellent reactivity, it relies on common shared values such as boldness, transparency, mutual confidence, progress through technical innovation and a strong and close human relationship. The Group’s role is to make an essential contribution to the ING Renault F1 team’s sporting performance by ensuring technical excellence through all the links of the lubricants and fuel chain: formulation, production, delivery and assistance on the circuit.
Total at races: Total provides the ING Renault F1 Team with a full analysis of fuel and oil samples at every race, using cutting edge technology. Total engineers conduct more than 70 tests per weekend on the race products used in the cars, to ensure that the drivers will be able to get peak performance at all times.
* Fuels Formula One fuel is one of the most tightly controlled fuels within the world of motor sport with the chemical and physical parameters dictated by the FIA. These regulations imposed by the FIA are designed to foster the development of road car fuels; specific power boosting chemical compounds are banned and all chemical components are highly monitored. Total engineers regularly analyse the fuel, taking extreme care to ensure that it remains legal and in prime condition during the race weekend. If a sample taken by the FIA did not match the pre-approved fuel profile, the team could ultimately be disqualified.
* Lubricants Unlike fuels, engine lubricants are slightly less restricted. This gives Total chemists and engineers more freedom to explore new and unique formulations with two objectives: reliability and to get the most out of the Formula One engine. Instantaneous information provided by analysing the engine lubricant is essential for the ING Renault F1 team to understand the condition of the engine.
Formulating the best possible F1 fuel or the most efficient lubricant, necessitates having one of the best research centres in the field, it is based in France near Lyon at Solaize."

an interesting article and i would expect that as normal there would be a supplier/sponsor arrangement in place. as to the design of the engines i woud also expect that the renault engineers perform the design function and architecture and elf would be given the fuel'lubricant requirements to service that engine design. it is possible that there would be a large element of cross fertilization but as to the actual engine design i would think that it would be a renault first and foremost.
