The first week of winter testing was a bit like the first week of school after along summer break, and just like school, there was a big surprise when Toyota unlocked the doors for the start of their winter program. The day before the team revealed their new TF106, which was expected to make its first on track appearance today.

With Jarno Trulli and Ricardo Zonta being the first drivers to get a feel for the new TF106, the new car complete with its all new V8 engine, started work in preparation for the 2006 championship. The boys in red and white completed 140 laps in total with no major drama’s, Trulli and Zonta finishing the day fifth and third respectively.

Elsewhere Williams unveiled their winter testing livery, with their all new Cosworth engine. Red Bull Racing were also in action, with Christian Klien going fastest with a limited V10 engine with Alex Wurz just behind in his McLaren. Robert Doornbos made a welcome return with Red Bull Racing; the Dutchman will be Red Bull Racing’s Friday runner next year. Finally, Nick Heidfeld also made his return with BMW-Sauber, but the first day back in the office didn’t go to plan, with the German stopping after 27 laps with a fuel leak.
