Ralf pulls out

Ralf Schumacher will not be participating in this weeks test in Jerez. He aggravated an injury in his back, which he sustained at Indianapolis in 2004, on Wednesday. Since then he complained about discomfort in the TF106, and Toyota decided to send the German home.

Technical director Mike Gascoyne said: “Ralf was pretty pleased with the car and the balance and he looked very competitive this morning.

“Unfortunately he aggravated a minor back injury which meant the team decided to cut his testing short.

“It’s not a major problem but it was causing him some discomfort and we did not want to make the problem worse.”

Jarno Trulli will resume Ralf's duties, testing alongside Australian Ryan Briscoe in his return to F1.

Schumacher added: “It’s a pity we had to finish the test early, but we are pleased with how the work is going on the new car so far.”
