Once again Toyota failed to make an impression on the front of the time sheets, with Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher finishing tenth and eleventh respectively. As usual Fernando Alonso was fastest for Renault, with Jenson Button in his Honda hot on his heals in second. McLaren brought a revised version of their V8 engine to Jerez today, and the improvements seemed to work, pushing Juan Pablo Montoya into third place in the teams MP4-21.

Behind came the second Honda of Rubens Barrichello, with the two BMW-Sauber’s of Heidfeld and Villeneuve sixth and seventh.

After the launch of their 2006 machine yesterday, Fernando set the pace in his R26, 0.01 seconds faster than Jenson Button’s Honda.

Jarno Trulli got the better of team-mate Ralf Schumacher for tenth and eleventh, completing just under 200 laps between them.
