Red Bull Racing Valencia Day 2 Test Report

By Ian Lockwood
February 2 2011

Red Bull Racing drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber split the driving duties today, with Sebastian driving in the morning, before Mark took over for the afternoon.

The team continued testing its all-new RB7 and completed further system checks, as well as focusing on some aerodynamic development work.

Head of Race Engineering, Ian Morgan said: “Sebastian pretty much ran to schedule this morning; there were a few minor delays, but nothing significant. Unfortunately we lost some time changing drivers this afternoon due to some driver installation issues. Once Mark’s testing session got underway, he was able to complete two runs and begin acclimatising to the new car.”

Mark Webber said: “I didn’t get so long in the car today, so we will start the real work tomorrow. There was a bit of a problem with the installation, something with the pedals, so it took a bit longer than we expected. It wasn’t the smoothest day, but we’re back tomorrow – it’s great that the guys have got the car here for the first test and I’m looking forward to driving it more.”

Best time: Vettel: 1:13.614, Webber: 1:17.365

Although Vettel tests went well it was a shame the team had to spend so much time adjusting it for Mark. Surely they must know his hieght and had fitting measurements ready before they went to Spain.
Still this is only the first test and just to have the car run reliably is all you can ask for.
Much more to come I am sure.

When I first read the following article I thought the title said 'Petal issues delays Webber's first afternoon'. It made me laugh when I realised my mistake!

Pedal issue delays Webber’s first afternoon

Who's going to be the first to claim a conspiracy against Mark?

Okay. I will.

I really feel for him.

Had the team not been geared around Vettel last year I would say he would have been world champion.

If he can pull it off this year with so much against him it will be one of the all time great sporting achievements.

Fingers crossed he likes the Pirellis more than Seb and the car is just as competitive as it was last year...

The team said last week I think that Seb would get days one and two and Mark would run the last two days of the test I do not know why they chose to change the program.. It would of been better to get that second full day with Seb before throwing the ball to Mark..

But first two days of testing one simple issue, car looking fast enough for now and has not thrown parts all over the track not complaining yet!! Well maybe just a little!!

Looked like a big change to where our exhaust is exiting from day 1 to 2.

Sure.

Day 1 - Can see the exhaust exiting directly below the suspension arm (follow the L from Renault down):

Day 2 - Follow the suspension arm down, theres now just bodywork there with sponsor stickers on it.

Day 2 - Exhaust seems to be going through a 'tunnel' (green arrow) through/under the floor, could either cut in to exit at the red arrow, or as Scarbs believes, exits at the extremeties of the diffuser:
