The Toyota and Renault Formula 1 Teams have given their support to the Sypker F1 Team in their customer car issue.
The row has been brewing since the start of Winter Testing last Winter over the fact that the Super Aguri Honda and Scuderia Toro Rosso teams are running customer cars from the Honda and Red Bull teams. The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR2 has a striking resembalance to this years Red Bull RB3 and the same applies to Super Aguri running what is effectivly a 2006 Honda RA106. Both teams protest their innocence....
Toyota boss Tsutomu Tomita and Renault cheif, the flamboyant and outspoken Flavio Briatore have given their teams to support to backmarker and Super Aguri and Toro Rosso rival, Sypker. The debate has been fuming for a while and twice Sypker have filed cases against the teams. Once in Australia and once here in Malaysia, both of which have been thrown out.
F1 Supremo Bernie Eccelstone has stated that he would prefer the case to be settled outside of court and arranged that the teams meet on Saturday Morning at Sepang. To what outcome remains to be seen.
Bernie is concerned that should Spyker F1 win its case against Super Aguri and Scuderia Toro Rosso, then these two teams will have their cars disqualified from the 2007 Formula 1 constructors' championship.
There seems to be no end in sight.....
