Toyota's Italian ace Jarno Trulli says that Toyota's goals for the 2007 Formula 1 Season were over-optimistic considering Toyota's current machine, the TF107's pace relative to it's rivals. Toyota's target for this season was to take it's maiden victory in Motorsport's premiere series.

When the TF107 was launched back in Januray, there was an air of optimism, not only around the Toyota camp but with the fans in general as proven the the TTF1 messageboard.

However, the Cologne based Japanese outfit have endured a miserable season notching up just 12 points in this years Championship, with two Sixth places, for Jarno in the USA and Ralf Schumacher in Hungary the best results this season.

Drivers, the team and fans have all bourne the brunt of this, and when talking to Italain sports paper ''Gazzetta Dello Sport'' Jarno opened up about Toyota's season and the goals they had set.

"Toyota suffer from over-optimism." He said  "When I tested the new car at the beginning of the season, I immediately realized it wasn't up to scratch.''

At that moment in time, Jarno and Ralf's views on the TF107's were world's apart. ''Ralf said it had great potential." He continued.

Jarno arrived at Toyota in late 2004 after a fall out with at the time employers Renault, despite taking their only victory that season at the Monaco Grand Prix. Jarno took 3 podium finishes in his first full season of Toyota in 2005 at Malaysia, Bahrain and Spain but has since seen the downfall of Toyota's fortunes.

However he gives fans hope for 2008 Season by saying:

"The Japanese bosses maintain we'll have a car two seconds faster. It only that was true, I would even give up half of my retainer."

Hopefully the promises can be turned into reality, Toyota need a competitive car in 2008.
