Jerez Day 7

By Nick Sparkes
December 14 2005

On the seventh day of testing in Jerez, Frank Montagny in his 2005 spec Renault set the pace using a V10 engine (whats new there?). But behind was the surprise of the day, Narain Karthikeyan set the second fastest time, a second clear of his teammate Mark Webber and was the fastest V8 overall.

Narain is set to be confirmed as Williams’ Friday tester next season, and after his performance today, I wouldn’t be too surprised if an announcement is made in the fore coming month.

Elsewhere Ferrari’s Felipe Massa concentrated on Bridgestone tyres and was third fastest with a detuned Ferrari V10, whilst the second of the V8’s was that of Toyota’s Ricardo Zonta in fourth, with Renault tester Heikki Kovalainen just behind.

Toyota also ran a car for Oliver Panis and Franck Perera who shared a TF106, yet set the slowest times of the day.
