For much of the Canadian Grand Prix Ralf Schumacher was facing the wrong direction after struggling with handling issues. This didn’t stop the German from touring around the circuit, getting in everybody’s way and causing the exit of Jacques Villeneuve who was trying to lap the slower Toyota. The retirement cost Jacques a single point and caused the final Safety car period, something the French-Canadian in front of his home crowds feels cheated by. "Ralf Schumacher was running very slowly for quite a few laps and I think he had a problem with his car.” said Jacques “When he decided to let me by it was through a corner. He lifted and just to avoid him I had to go wide where there was old rubber from the tyres - it was like being on an ice rink”
Ralf Schumacher denied to comment on the incident, and so did Toyota. For those of you who have good memories this isn’t the first time the pair have got together in Canada, during the final stages of the 2000 Canadian Grand Prix Jacques made an ambitious move at the hairpin which took him and Ralf out on the spot, I suppose they’re even now.
