BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIXInterlagos Circuit, Sao Paulo Circuit Length: 4.309 km Race Number of Laps: 71 Distance: 305.909 km Lap Record: 1'11''473 J.P Montoya, Williams – 2004

As we go into the two final races of the season the WDC Championship is wide open. Will Alonso continue his late season assault or will Webber or Vettel bounce back ?

Brazil usually serves up an interesting race. Going the other direction on a bumpy track always challenges the neck muscles. The weather can vary considerably sometimes causing an unexpected finish. All the stops will have to be pulled out by McLaren if either Hamilton or Button expect to stay in contention for the title.

Our Mercedes boys are looking forward to achieving points and increasing the lead over Renault.

If Massa turns in a good race he could definitely be the spoiler in the equation.

It looks like the Donkey is favourite from now on. Others just kind of vanish and he collects all the points.

He has been given 3 or more victories this year, the lucky Bank.

Webber just isnt a champ material and Vettel has lost 100 points due to reliability.

So far so good. On day 1 both drivers evenly-matched, nicely in the top 10. Though higher than 7th or 8th in qualifying will still be hard.

That's the problem. The car just doesn't have the legs. Our guys are getting the max out of what they have. Maybe the breaks will go our way during the race.
Here's to hoping so !

I can't help but to feel very disappointed. I don't know what happened to Rosberg other than him making a mistake on one of his fast laps.
I was getting really hysterical when Schumacher was 3rd in the dying moments of qualifying! Can't believe how the last seconds punished us! The drying conditions really hurt us in the last minute, I can't believe how a higher position got away.

Don't know what feed you are listening to but on SPEED TV Will Buxton interviewed Nico and he said the car had a lot of understeer and his rear tires were thrashed.
Kind of ironic because Michael loves understeer and put his car up front compared.
You were right with the closing moments, but as the track dried it changed things second by second.
Great drive by Hulkenberg, it was exciting to watch !

Hope we do well in the race.

This is clearly the limit of the car. However Schumy is giving signals of improvemnent of his performance and am confident that he can bring solid points tomorrow. Nico made mistakes in the crucial moments which costed him the Q3, but for tomorrow he can easily reach the points positions. With some luck we might grab 5 and 6th tomorrow.

Awesome qualifying action to watch, definately edge of your seat stuff & it looks like it will be a good race tomorrow.

However, just when I was gaining back some respect for Nico as a person (not as a driver, he's got my respect there already) he goes & pulls out the old excuse book again.

In Q2 we all saw that Nico was up in the first 2 sectors then we all saw him run wide & lose all that time at the last corner before the big hillclimb.

No one was in front of him yet now he claims he was held up by Buemi on that lap? I don't know why he feels the need to do this,(make excuses) as its not like he messes up often (I can only remember 2 or 3 crucial mistakes this year).

Nico has put in some great performances this year, but his ego & attitude needs some fine tuning. (yes yes, as do a few other drivers).

Clearly Buemi was there. I saw the footage and he was 2 tenths quicker than MS in that stage but had to lift the foot.

He would have been easily in q3. And who knows how high after that.

MS was great but it doesnt change the fact that Nico was blocked.

Hulkenberg was lightning fast (Sm152)

Ok I must have been watching different footage where it showed Rosberg running wide at the last corner (with a car a fair way in front of him before he even lost it, was that Buemi?)

This prompted Martin Brundle to say 'oh & Rosberg's made a mistake, that's going to cost him as he was up in the 2nd sector etc etc etc'

maybe I was watching through the beer goggles though, lol!

I saw Nico on SPEEDTV lift to avoid a car in front of him as the station went to commercial. I assumed he was on a hot lap but nothing was mentioned upon returning to broadcasting. The announcers where heavy into the end of #2 qually with the frontrunners on track as the clock ended.
During Nico's interview with Buxton Nico didn't mention the incident.
As downunder said Nico didn't pull out his excuse book during the interview/ He said the car was having trouble with tires and understeer. I don't know anything other than that.

Today once again showed pretty clearly where Mercedes' ambitions lie. I simply don't see the necessity for giving Rosberg the better strategy each and every time. Seriously, Germany, Japan, now Brazil and God knows how many more races.
Why Schumacher was pitted when he ran faster than Rosberg is beyond me. Had they held Schumacher out for at least another lap or two, he would have been out well ahead of Sutil and Rosberg would never even have gotten close. Poor team management. This doesn't do.

Yeah, Nico had a great pit stop. "Let's try those tyres, no, let's use these. Send him out then bring him back and try it all over again.
That was surely great strategy don't you think FF.
Hey we got good points. Lets hope less screw ups for the last race and we can cement our finish ahead of Renault.
Had Nico not been taken out by Webber he just might have had a good chance to finish ahead of Massa.

Well, the team could've just pitted Michael too without any risk, but for some reason they didn't.
Okay, Mercedes is obviously playing the team game. If they're not going to race their drivers fairly, fine, but at least acknowledge they should acknowledge that they are desperate for that 7th place in the WDC.

Schumi smiled though in the post-race interview and said: "We pitted a bit too early again this race". And didn't he just say he simply let Rosberg through after the SC. What a team player!

Schumacher let Rosberg through

By Andrew Papworth Sunday, November 7th 2010, 19:59 GMT

Michael Schumacher let team-mate Nico Rosberg through during the Brazilian Grand Prix as he felt he stood a better chance of overtaking Jenson Button.

Rosberg, who eventually finished sixth, was on fresher tyres than Schumacher having made an additional pitstop during the late safety car period.

"I let Nico past when he was on fresh tyres as he had the better chance to fight Jenson in front of us," explained Schumacher, who finished seventh.

Rosberg made three stops in the race after a radio problem caused confusion at his second stop.

Team principal Ross Brawn explained that the team had to ask him to stop again, but it didn't cause Rosberg to lose a position.

Rosberg praised the team for good strategy calls during the race, but bemoaned problems with traffic.

"It got a little chaotic but the team made a great call to get me on new rubber when the safety car came out," he explained. "Unfortunately Jenson did the same and there was a lot of chaos with lapped cars so I wasn't able to make up any further positions.

Brawn added: "We made all the right strategy calls today which enabled us to make up several places on cars ahead of us on the grid. It's good to have two cars scoring points but obviously we are not finishing where we would like to."

Brazilian Grand Prix

Nico and Michael made the most of the opportunities presented to them and had strong races to move up the order and improve on their grid positions.

Nico and Michael made the most of the opportunities presented to them and had strong races to move up the order and improve on their grid positions.

NICO ROSBERG

"I had a strong start today and when Michael pitted ahead of me, I had clear air and was able to make up positions thanks to our good strategy. From then, it got a little chaotic but the team made a great call to get me on new rubber when the safety car came out. Unfortunately Jenson did the same and there was a lot of chaos with lapped cars so I wasn't able to make up any further positions. Michael let me past which was nice as he was on used rubber against my new tyres."

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER

"I had quite a good start today gaining two positions which unfortunately I lost again directly afterwards following my exit on the grass because of the fight with Robert. We then had good pace but with hindsight, my pit stop was maybe a little too early which left me stuck behind Adrian. Towards the end, I let Nico past when he was on fresh tyres as he had the better chance to fight Jenson in front of us. I look forward to Abu Dhabi now where I hope to have another encouraging race.
"

ROSS BRAWN

"We are pleased to get a solid double points finish with good drives from Nico and Michael today. It was frustrating to lose a place to Jenson in the early stops as we expected him to get held up with traffic but he did a good job to get through. We made all the right strategy calls today which enabled us to make up several places on cars ahead of us on the grid. We had a radio problem which caused confusion with the tyres at Nico's second stop however we boxed him again with no loss of position. It's good to have two cars scoring points but obviously we are not finishing where we would like to. Congratulations to Red Bull for taking our Constructors' title today and we will be after them next year."

NORBERT HAUG

"We achieved the best possible results for us today to finish behind the drivers who were fighting for the World Championship as we have done in the six races since Spa. The team, Nico and Michael did a solid job and it is positive that Nico came home in sixth place after starting from 13th position. Michael recovered well from losing two places on the first lap to finish in seventh position and could have gone one place better if he had not been caught after his pit stop behind a car who changed tyres late in the race. Sixth and seventh places are not our target for the future but for now these results are the maximum with the technical package we currently have. Well done to everybody in our team and thank you for your hard work. We have one more race to go next weekend and then we are looking forward to next season with consistently better results. Congratulations to Red Bull Racing for winning the 2010 Formula One Constructors' World Championship."

The TV footage showed rosberg slowed into a corner behind buemi, it was after he had been held up, thats why he slowed down.

Unfortunately, Schumacher threw away the chance of a top 4 grid spot, he set his fastest time with about 6 minutes to go, all the others were in the last 2-3 minutes, if he had banged one in then he wouldn't have been so far back. Disappointing given all his experience.

Race

Nico made up places at the start, MS lost places. It seemed that MS wasnt even trying, he was just cruising around behind Sutil. He then let Nico past to avoid a racing overtake being seen around the world, at least by letting Nico pass, he saved some face during another poor effort and didnt let Nico have the satisfaction of overtaking him.

All in all, a very exciting GP

The last race will be here and gone and the 2011 season will start in ernest. IMO we are going in a positive direction and can look forward to the team playing a larger role next season.
Upwards and forward !

I remember that qualifying, too. By the way, Rosberg wasn't slowed by Buemi, he made a mistake. Yes, the almighty NICO made a mistake! Incredible, I know! How dare he!
As for the race, yes, Michael was a coward. What a cock for playing the team game! He should've just done what Rosberg did in Japan and block his teammate for the sake of it and in the process wreck his car!

Guys there isn't a team in F1 that doesn't have rivalry between their drivers. Look at Red Bull currently. That's what team owners and managers need and want. Both guys pushing.
Let's be realistic, if you don't cover your bacon you'll be eaten up in this competitive world of F1.
Our team has had both drivers taking advantage of certain situations at different times over the season but in all honesty I see our two drivers gelling as much as any others on the grid.
There seems to be an understanding developing between them that will be beneficial to Mercedes in 2011.
Let Brawn and the honcho's worry about the dynamics. All the team wants are points and success out of both of them.

Lol, both of you guys offer a very 'unique' interpretation of events, so to that I say hats of kind sirs for making me smile :-)

However I have to say, based on the location of the s2/s3 split (100metres before the last bend, just after the exit of the previous corner) & the fact that Nico came through that split up a tiny bit on Schumacher's time proves that when we saw Nico on TV immediately after this heading into the last corner then running wide (again with Buemi already a fair way up the road BEFORE Nico entered the corner & ran wide) we saw the exact moment where he dumped all the time he needed to be setting a time similar to MS & getting into Q3.

I have no issue with him making a mistake as he hasn't made many this year at all, I just think that if a 7 times world champion makes a similar mistake (as he has at previous races this year) and can admit to it to the world, maybe Nico could bring his mighty ego to do the same?

On another note, isn't it great to see our version of the "Fduct" finally working properely, funny how our cars have stopped going backwards now that no one can just drive past us down the straights now :-)

A little birdie told me that the Mercedes system is supposed to be legal for use next year too, apparantely this is why they decided to go with a different concept initially & also why it has taken them so long to get it just right.

Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

so he lets nico through and he is selfish, if he held nico up (successfully or not) he'd be selfish. come on, you can't have it both ways.

i don't mind if someone sticks a boot into shumi if he does something wrong/stupid, but this is, to quote alonso, "ridiculous!"

Ms is a cold calculating and selfish person. Everything he does is only for himself. No question abouth that. Take a look back at his previous career, self self self, no teamwork, no help at any time for team mates. They were expected to help him. Thats why he's the most hated driver ever.

To now try to say he's gone all soft and cuddly is indeed ridiculous. If he blocks, yes hes selfish, but also, if he let Nico through, he undoubtedly did it for HIS OWN reasons, not Nico's.

I see he's making comments in the press about "what a great team Mercedes" is, he will be doing that for his own reasons too, probably letting Nico through is connected with him trying to convince the team that he's a team player.

Well he's not, hes a selfish @#$%&.

Anyway, sorry for pulling your leg, hope you enjoy the last race. I do hope both guys finish in strong positions.
And yes we here know you are a team player. Some of MS's fans may doubt it, but if we all thought the same way. things would be a little dull.

You gotta love the way some people are bitter about Schumacher's success. Yeah, I guess the most popular driver in F1 has to have some enemies.

Popularity is a funny thing. Glory fans who just want to count up wins think our Michael is fantastic because he tops most of the record books, while real sporting fans look through all the FIA help / cheating stuff, and they don't rate him very highly at all. It's notable that most of the younger F1 drivers rate senna as the greatest not Michael.

Its a shame really because without all his "brain fades", he would have been regarded as one of the top three all time greats. I suppose it would be similar to lauding an Olympic runner who takes drugs, it makes the achievements worthless.

Anyway, it don't matter a pitcher of warm pi$$, Schumacher has had his day and he's not really on Formula One's radar anymore. Although his glory fans must be hurting now he's doing so badly.

Anyway, enough about him, I just want to see Mercedes have a good one in UAE.

Bye for now

It makes keeping tabs on things exciting. We could have two drivers who seldom stir headlines and that accompanied with mid-field cars would make this site blend into the fray almost unnoticed.
But because of Michael and all that goes along with him there's hardly a dull moment.
For Nico's fans it's been a delight to see him not fold up and become a subservient yes man to the strong reputation of a guy like Michael.
If the car improves for 2011 we should see some real racing out of both of them. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing and writing about it.
If you happen to like both drivers (rare as it seems) it will even be a bigger treat.
If you are a Mercedes fan I think most of your hopes can be delivered by either driver and you can watch the lone star rub shoulders with the cream of the F1 competitors.

I like em both! They both have their faults (as we all do) but that's not to say I don't like em!

I think we should remember the team, and not rubbish any particular driver just because hes had a bad year. Having said that, this is F1 and drivers who only score only half of their team mates points aren't usually tolerated for long.

I hope we have a good end to the year.

Well done Lewis. New driver, new era.

I agree with you on this one. Anybody can have a bad year but at the same time like you said...it is F1 and tolerance for bad performance over a long aren't very common in F1. We will see in the coming season and I hope both drivers perform well next season. I think at times that with an over-steering car we could have 2 very competitive drivers...then and at times I wonder about it to be honest.
