MercedesAMG F1 Singapore GP 2013 (20.-22.09.2013)

By Timba7
September 10 2013

Monza did not do good for Mercedes team hopes for titles. Vettel and RB are now too far. But nevertheless now the highspeed tracks of SPA and Monza are done. Those circuits clearly didn´t work with WO4.Singapore Marina Bay Night race is driven in dark. Only around 1600 light projectors gives enough light for drivers to see. Good luck to Nico and Lewis!! In the mean time, where does Kimi end up?? Check out the track profile here:

Tilke track.

Some memories: Piquet crash with Renault gate.

1.45,599 (Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari, 2008)

Only Monaco is slower than Marina Bay.

@Merc official

Singapore preview – Nico: “One of the toughest races from a physical perspective”

For Nico, “the Singapore Grand Prix is a fantastic occasion and the whole weekend has one of the best atmospheres of the year. For the drivers, it is one of the toughest races from a physical perspective as there are so many corners and no long straights where you can relax.

It's also a very long race which runs close to the two-hour time limit. The chicane has been removed for this year which I'm pleased about, and the track should suit our car so I hope we can have a good weekend there. My best finish in Singapore to date has been second place back in 2008 and, of course, I would love to improve on that!”

-----------------------

Singapore preview – Lewis: “It certainly makes a change from the usual race weekend”

Lewis has always “really enjoyed the Singapore Grand Prix weekend and the unique 'night' timetable that we have to follow there. It certainly makes a change from the usual race weekend and it's actually very easy to do if you plan your sleeping and eating patterns well.

As a street circuit, the Marina Bay track layout really suits my style. It's quite a testing circuit and you need to work the car hard the whole way round the lap to make the most of the tight corners and braking zones. We've had a tough couple of weekends in Belgium and Italy but I know that everyone at the team is determined to bounce back from here and make the most of the opportunities over the last seven races of the season.”

---------------------

Drivers seems to like the track. Lets see how it goes! I am hoping we can bring the game back.

Mercedes posted a photo on twitter with the cars behind barriers with something like "wish we could show you more"

I'm expecting something real good to look at today.

They also tweeted on Friday about simmulator work ( Hamilton was in that day)

"If only we could show you guys what we're seeing now smiling smiley" and as answer to a another tweet if they watch the sign of the simulator room : ...We were watching something far more interesting!

I read that the last big update package was scheduled for Singapore and Korea, I thought...

But it looks more "under the skin" than on it. So no visible (big) changes.

btw: check out that sexy hamhelmet:

Glad to see nice biting but sad to see Lewis not on his level. But he has the balls to admit that he underperformed. Still wondering what could have been with a hami on form. I reckon 3 tenths faster than Rosberg and Vettel had also one or two tenths in hand so it would have been megaclose between lewis and vettel but yeah.

2nd and 5th. Let's hope webber bogs down again and crashkid (grosjean) doesn't do anything silly. Hope to see the ferrari's collide when alonso wants to overtake massa.

Frankly, I'm on board with the helmet ban. It's gotten out of hand.

In the old days, you could EASILY tell which driver was which by their helmet. After all, they're in identical cars and they move so fast most times you could barely make out the numbers on them.

But you could always spot the Yellow of Senna or Blue and White of Prost. It was literally a night and day difference.

Why all these kids these days have to change helmet design more frequently than they change underwear is beyond me.

Pick one and stick with it.

Exciting race afterall. Too bad we didnt guite nail the strategy. Kimi would have been leapfrogged in couple of more laps.

4-5 not the best possible. But i think we had more. So off to next race!!

RB/ Vettel is now out of the reach. And Hammi has his aim at Alonso so there is some more to wait for.

Ferrari did managed to overtake Merc at WCC poins. So there is also good fight going on.

Vettel is now pretty damn close to get his 4th. WTF. The guy is something like 25. RB is mighty strong. Newey is god. Can anyone stop them???

@Official

Singapore, Sunday – Nico: “Events in the race just didn't go our way”

Nico had a “good start today and the pace of our car was really strong this evening. The safety car was unfortunate timing for us and perhaps it wasn't the best decision to stay out but, at the time, we weren't sure if our tyres would be able to last the distance.

I then had some rubber trapped in my front wing after the safety car period which cost me quite a lot of performance for some laps and had an impact on my race because the tyres suffered more than would be normal.

We could perhaps have been second today but events in the race just didn't go our way so it is a little disappointing to only finish in fourth place. We now need to learn from this weekend and focus on the next race in Korea.”

---------------------------

Singapore, Sunday – Lewis: “Disappointing to come away with only fifth place but I gave it my all out there and we'll come back stronger”

“That was a really tough race” says Lewis, “probably the most physically demanding of the year. We tried our best and the car felt good tonight but unfortunately we paid the price for not qualifying further ahead yesterday. I didn't have the best start and had to go wide to avoid Mark at turn one. From there, it was difficult to follow the race and my position.

Whilst the timing of the safety car definitely didn't help us, we need to go back through our strategy and see what we could possibly have done differently in that situation. I'm not sure we could have done what Fernando and Kimi did by staying out on that set of tyres for so long, though.

Of course, it's a little disappointing to come away with only fifth place but I gave it my all out there and we'll come back stronger. Our aim is to get back ahead of Ferrari in the Constructors' Championship and see if we can get another win before the end of the season.”

------------------------

Better results clesrly were possible. Anyways Ferrari is the aim!! WCC and WDC 2 are still possible. So lets do it!!! smiling smiley

"Nico had a “good start today and the pace of our car was really strong this evening. "

I just wonder - is it a good start where he made a mistake to run wide after turn 1 allowing Vettel "to cross on him" already in turn 2?

What do you think will Lewis having the same position as Rosberg let Vettel goes ?

Cold tires, and dirty track. The first braking zone is a bit tricky i guess..

But yes. Nico should have handled Vettel there. No excuses.
Good start anyways.

Most boring race of the season, I vote: yes!

Mega start from Nico but cocked up a fraction later.

Lewis, worst race of the season in terms of pace, I think.

Strategy was a mess, at least one car should have come in during the safety car... Merc is letting ferrari stealing their 2nd place... sigh(Sm111)

I hope they return to form in Korea...

Webber and nando should have gotten both penalties for this:
