The Portuguese press have been going into overdrive this week stating that Monteiro has extended his stay at Silverstone by signing a 1 year deal with Midland. According to the ‘Record’ the 2005 rookie is set to build on his debut year and beat names like Davidson and Sato to the place. Monteiro shone in his rookie year with Jordan, earning himself an impressive reliability record under race conditions. The former Champ Car driver enjoys sizeable backing from the oil company Galp, and according to the ‘Record’ it is this that will guarantee him the place next to Christijan Albers.

The ‘Record’ also states that there will be an announcement from the Midland team this Tuesday or Wednesday. The papers’ source is said to be a government official – Galp is a state controlled company. The details given even included the name of the hotel where the contract was signed !

Midland F1 Fans Online urges all Monteiro fans to treat this news with caution until there is an official line from the team itself – but hey, we can hope !
