F1Racing.net recently hosted a headline that read "Midland interested in Gascoyne". Since the popular F1 news site is listed as a sponsor of Midland F1 Racing you'd think that the site would have a handle on all the latest news and gossip circulating about the team.
The site even quotes an "anonymous source" which claims that "The Midland team has great interest to get Mike Gascoyne back at Silverstone."
The news has received a mixed reception from fans visiting Midland F1 Online. The vast majority seem in favour of a potential move, and draw reference to the Jordan glory days of 1999.
Others are more sceptical, and feel that he will find another home in the F1 paddock perhaps at McLaren or Williams. One interesting suggestion is that whilst he is still contracted to Toyota, he could be pursuaded to help Midland to get their Toyota powered machines higher up the grid rather than assist another rival team.
Amid counter claims that the team could never afford his services anyway we felt it wise to check with our sources in the team and see what they had to say. "Nothing to that rumour," was the short response to our query with an additional statement throwing doubt on F1Racing's "anonymous source". Yet again it is a simple but dedicated fan site that brings you the real facts among the rumours.
Knowing my luck though, Mike Gascoyne will get confirmed with MF1 by the end of the week...
