Albers nerfed out by Ide on lap one at Imola

All the teams hard work came to nothing today when an over enthusiastic Yuji Ide thumped into the rear wheel of Chistijan Albers and pitched him into the gravel trap.

All four wheels were torn off, as the car pitched over and over. Fortunately Christijan was seen walking away from the car, but his body language indicated that he was less than pleased with what had happened.

ITV, the UK TV broadcaster with the rights to transmit Formula One coverage, caught up with Chrisitjan once he'd returned to the garage.

"You know, you can expect it", he said. "The problem is the Super Aguri's are missing some speed, we of course are missing some speed against the other ones but they try to make everything good in the first lap, the first corners, and you see what is happening and it's really a shame. One thing is that we really have to work on our starts now to be sure that we are safe. Because they are just breaking us down and taking too much risk. But we can see today again how safe Formula One is, so it's good."

Louise Goodman asked, "Do you see him coming or was it all a bit of a surprise for you?"

"No," Chistijan replied, "it was really a surprise but you know they always try to shoot a little space to go in and I think sometime it's too much risk"
