Adrian Sutil was one of the stars of qualifying in Turkey, obtaining P15 after taking advantage of the second under-performance of Lewis Hamilton in successive races. Giancarlo Fisichella took to the grid in 19th after having his flying lap ruined by Nelson Piquet Jr. picking an awkward time to spin.
Adrian's best lap came early in the session but the track surface didn't improve as much as usual. This meant that, combined with a late spin from Piquet Jr., the Toro Rossos and Hamilton were unable to mount a convincing challenge.
In Q2, Adrian confirmed his 15th position, starting from the clean side of the grid.
Giancarlo was prevented from joining his team-mate in Q2 by two problems. Firstly, he lost vital set-up time in the morning because the front brakes were frequently locking. Secondly, Piquet Jr's spin ruined Giancarlo's final lap just as it prevented several other people from improving enough to prevent Adrian's entry into Q2. Giancarlo started 19th.
