Nico crosses finish line

Italian Grand Prix Monza, Italy. Both Mercedes score points after advancing positions in a competitive race. Nico was able to gain two positions and Michael three after successful starts.

Both drivers felt they got maximum performance out of their cars. Nico finished in fifth and Michael in ninth. Impressive starts propelled Nico from seventh to fourth while Michael surged into the top ten.

Nico had a chance to hang on to his fourth place position but lost it to the late charging Vettel. Rosberg had stiff competition at the start of the race with Kubica and near the end with Vettel. Nico was basically satisfied with his performance but wasn't happy losing fourth to the Red Bull of Vettel's.  Although he was satisfied leap-frogging Robert in the Drivers Championship points.

Michael drove a clean smooth race and was happy with his start, but was less pleased when both Webber and Vettel managed to get passed after strong defensive moves.

Ross Brawn felt Mercedes had respectable results having two cars in the points.

Seems to me both drivers drove to their form. Nico qualified and raced well again. Well done Nico.

Interesting comments from EJ,- lots of drivers going in and out of the mercedes motorhome....

Good to be back on line. It was missed. Getting points by bothdrivers is good. Maybe MS will catch fire and the team can salvage themselves in the CC.

Yes our 2nd driver has let us down badly this year, 46 points to Nico's 112 is rubbish.
Who is going to replace him?

Well its all interesting and the silly season is underway. Kimi has come out of the bushes and contacted Renault. Nick's as of now is @ Sauber, so there is movement, but unless there's some real earth shaking problems between Michael and the team I expect he will remain. As for a back-up driver we may see (just a guess) PDLR just because of his ties with Mercedes. Safe but not much potential future. On the other hand it would be smart to get another young blood.

If MS's return had been a triumph instead of a disaster it would make sense to go with him in 2011 but its would be foolish in the extreme to hang the hopes of a team on a 42 year old has been. We should get a young guy in next to Nico as with a decent car Nico can be racing at the front.

Given that MS is half a second slower than nico, our car would have to be at least half a second faster than RB or Macca for MS to stand any chance- and that aint gonna happen.

He's just a waste of a seat.
