Mercedes to face FIA

By Timba7
June 6 2013

Mercedes F1 team will face an investigation from the FIA's International Tribunal. Regarding its recent "secret" tyre test with Pirelli. While Ferrari has been cleared somehow. Rules are not clear and seems to be that Mercedes might be the team to be punished. Monacos win has dark shadow. Rumour is that punishment might be that team will not get any WCC points from Canada. We´ll see how it goes. @Autosport is good read about this news. Here is the link: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/107882. Here is FIA statement about the matter:

* To close the case as regard to Scuderia Ferrari Team considering that its participation in a tyre test organised by Pirelli in Barcelona on 23-24 April 2013 using for this purpose a 2011 car is not deemed to contravene the applicable FIA rules.

* To bring the case concerning the tyre testing session carried out by Pirelli and Team Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 in Barcelona on 15-17 May 2013 before the FIA International Tribunal because it results from the inquiry that the conditions of this testing may constitute a breach of the applicable FIA rules.

Jack,[Sessions] would have said that as usual Ferrari will push for a punishment for any team that doesn't have a red car.

LDM at Ferrari has hoped Mercedes is penaliced, or Ross Brawn loses his job?

He is saying teams should not bend the rules, sounds a bit hypocrite!! smiling smiley

F1technical:

EVIDENCE BUILDING UP

"Evidence builds against Mercedes AMG F1

With the tribunal hearing for Mercedes and Pirelli set to happen in 7 days time, evidence is building up against the Mercedes F1 Team, as a leaked gentlemen's agreement now also seems to have been breached.

Germany's SportBild has published a document that seals a gentlemen's agreement between all current F1 teams. The document states that if any team wanted to run development testing for 2014, any test would have to be jointly approved by the testing committee - the teams - and the FIA.

Although Ross Brawn denied at Canada the test was actually "secret" but rather "private", the agreement requires any team that is out to test elements for 2014 is bound to inform all other competitors beforehand. This not obviously didn't happen, as Red Bull Racing for one heard from the press at Monaco that a test had taken place.

Furthermore, Pirelli have said that the testing was aimed to develop 2014 tyres and had nothing to do with resolving the safety issues that appear to be going on with the current set of 2013 tyres.

The problem essentially is that it is Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn who signed the agreement, while he also clearly stated that it was him who approved the Pirelli test with the Mercedes AMG F1W4 at Barcelona. And even though the agreement is not enforceable in court, it severely undermines the position of Ross Brawn, and Mercedes as a trustworthy competitor in Formula One."

Not sure how this mess will build up. But i believe Ferrari had the test first with 2 year old car not 3 like in the rules. Mercedes found it out. And Pirelli made panic call and arranged private test which was found out.

I have said since the beginning that Ferrari and Pirelli has work together with tires, because all the others exept Alonso has had major problems with tires.

Pirelli is Italian company. Ring ring... it was obvious.

This problem will be swept under, mark my words smiling smiley

I dont think they can affort to jump out now. It will not look good for the brand if they do.

Mercedes is not some sheap little car manufacturer.

Ofcourse the problem might be economy, in Europe there might be some serious changes coming. The bubble that has been created by wrong politics , finance banks, and greed, is HUGE!

The reports of some members of the Merc board pushing to pull out of F1 and citing the FIA / Tyre issue as a line in the sand is obviously designed to send a message to Bernie and JT that they shouldn't give us a huge punishment for our test, despite what Ferrari wants.

This is no more than a tactic to minimise the punishment.

As far as the suspected RB Traction Control is concerned, that is very unlikely given the close watch on electronics these days. I've not seen the picture, but from the description, it could be no more than simple old fashioned tramping.

YES, we got away with it. Good. Money talks in F1, always been the same. Nice to see Lewis in a team that is so important to F1, it can cheat as much as it likes like Ferrari or Renault always have.
