MercedesAMG F1 Silverstone 2013 (FP, Q and race)

By Timba7
June 20 2013

The F1 series started at Silverstone in 1950. Since then the track has been changed many times. The track is fast. Genuine F1 track.Long straights kind of reminds of runways. Mercedes has been really strong at last four races. Q pace is great and time to time also good race form. Rain is always a factor at British GP and it might have some tricks for Mercedes we´ll see. Also time has made the track a bit rough on tires. So 2013 Pirelli tires might be on the edge. The tires are: "At the British Grand Prix the P Zero Orange hard and P Zero White medium tyres" Nico and Lewis are in great shape. Hamiltons problems with brakes hopefully solved at Silverstone. We can be sure that the drivers will be strong. Before the race FIA is checking the rule book about Mercedes tests with Pirelli. So that will also be interesting in near future. Here is the track stats:

Race Date:30 Jun 2013
First Grand Prix:1950
Number of Laps:52
Circuit Length:5.891 km
Race Distance:306.198 km
Lap Record:1:34.661 - K Raikkonen (2012)

I think we'll suffer as we did in Spain but less severe.

@Official Merc

Silverstone preview – Nico: “Always a great atmosphere at Silverstone”

"Silverstone is one of the team's home Grands Prix and that's why we all love the race, especially because lots of friends and family came to watch us. After Monaco and Montreal, now we have a completely different kind of track with lots of high-speed corners.

I don't know how our car is going to perform on such a track and it will certainly be interesting in terms of tyre degradation, because these tyres wear most in high-speed corners so this will be key to getting a good result.

For me it's also very special to stay in the motorhome in the middle of the track along with some other drivers. It's always a great atmosphere and thanks to the BRDC we have a barbecue with fellow drivers and friends."

-----------------------------------

Silverstone preview – Lewis: “Racing at Silverstone is always something special for me”

“Racing at Silverstone is always something special for me being my home race. We had a long break between Canada and Silverstone so I can’t wait to get back in the car on Friday. The build-up to this race is always very busy so it is nice to already be in the mood for the weekend.

I love the track as well, there are no real heavy braking events so the challenge is more about the high speed corners, you really need to get into a rhythm, a flow, which makes this track so nice and fast.

In terms of our own performance, I think we’ve made some small steps in the right direction but we won’t know where we really are until we start our programme on Friday. Hopefully we have another positive step for this weekend and I’m looking forward to see what I can deliver in front of my home fans.“

----------------------

So a lot question marks from our drivers.

Huh? A car that is fast but has no race pace... And then all those brake issues.
The 22 and 23 were much better (mcl cars).

I don't get it...

Merc were very lucky at least two times, got away from the tribunal punishment for the testing and having the second "slow during races, but good on tyre management" driver who has won the race.

Anyway, good that now Merc is within the top 3, so please bring the show !

Our race pace shows that we are now a top team. Pole and win, we could have had a one - two but for those w@#$%& tyres.

BTW, has anyone noticed that there have only been 4 posters in this thread since the race?

Good results afterall. I think we are in better shape than ever before. So overall perfect weekend. Silverstone was known to be tire aeter, and with Hammis aggressive style i think it was possible something was going to happen.

Too bad. But the tires are changing to next races, so Hammi will win no doubt. So bring it on.

So how we are doing in title fights??

Do we still have a chance?

@Official

Silverstone, Sunday – Nico: “We have such great momentum in our Silver Arrows team and I'm very proud to be part of it”

“This is a great moment for me and our team to win in the home of motor racing at Silverstone” said Nico after his win on Sunday. “We have such great momentum in our Silver Arrows team and I'm very proud to be part of it.

This win is for every single person who has been involved in building our car. It was a shame for Lewis today, and I had also a problem with my tyre but I was lucky because of the Safety Car. It was so special to win today, especially in front of fellow team members and their families as our factory is only ten minutes away from the track.

The race was really exciting. I had to manage the tyres really carefully, I was told to avoid the kerbs. At the end, it was difficult to hold Mark and to look after my tyres but I was able to keep the position, and take a great victory for us.

Now we can look forward to another home race next weekend at the Nürburgring.”

----------------------------------

HAMMI:

Silverstone, Sunday – Lewis: “It's a great result for the team today, big congratulations to Nico”

“Of course”, said Lewis, “I'm disappointed by today's race and I would have loved to deliver the win this afternoon for all the British fans here at Silverstone.

The race started so well for us today; I felt comfortable out in front and was managing my pace. The tyre problem was such a shame and from then, it was just a case of giving it my all and battling as far up the field as possible.

I had some good overtaking moves and, given another lap, I might have got Fernando and ended up on the podium. Everything considered, fourth place is pretty good after having been last on lap 10 and we'll take that. It's a great result for the team today, big congratulations to Nico who came through a tricky situation to take the win for us.

We've now moved up to second place in the Constructors' Championship which is a nice reward for everyone at the factories just down the road from here.”
