Nico really likes the Hungaroring: “it has quite a challenging layout for the drivers. With all the twists and turns, it feels very much like Monaco but takes place on a normal circuit.



Qualifying will be important this weekend which is good for us but we know that we have to deliver on Sunday as well. The forecast looks hot and it is likely to very demanding on the tyres. Physically it will be a tough race and the lack of straights means that you never get a moment to relax.

It would be great for us to come away from Hungary with another strong result to take into the summer break.”

Lewis enjoys the Hungaroring and won there three times in the past: “I love the layout of the circuit and Budapest is a really cool city which has a great atmosphere over the race weekend.

It will be an important weekend for us and we need to get off to a good start on Friday when we have the chance to try the new tyres for the first time.

I've spent some time at the factory since we returned from Germany and I know that everyone there is working really hard to improve our overall performance and to address the issues that we experienced at the last race.

It would be great to reward all of that effort with a strong weekend in Budapest and I'll certainly be pushing to make that happen.”

So Q should be ok. But is it enough what they have done at the factory?

I think that FIAs regs about tire usage will hurt us still. Our race pace was mainly due to trick that after Q they changed left rear to right and it was good for start of the race. I cant see that they could suddenly find such advantage from other areas. But we will see...

Hope we are right up there.

Nico Rosberg, MercedesMercedes has no chance of winning the Hungarian Grand Prix, reckon drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

The team had a muted practice day at the Hungaroring, with Hamilton's sixth place in the afternoon session the high point as Red Bull dominated.

Rosberg said the hot conditions were the worst possible scenario for Mercedes, with tyre wear in races still its weak point.

"Red Bull looked very, very good today. I don't think we have the speed this weekend," he said.

"Red Bull seems very quick and some other teams are also going to be quicker than us in the hot conditions of the race. We just need to make the most of it and get a lot of points.

"The hotter it is, the worse it is for us and the more we're going to struggle. And this is likely to be the hottest race of the year. It's going to be tough."

Hungarian GP practice was the first opportunity for Mercedes to try Pirelli's revised tyres as it was banned from the Silverstone test.

Hamilton said Mercedes had at least caught up on tyre knowledge during Friday.

"We don't seem to have the pace that we had at the last race but we'll make some changes tonight and try to understand it," he said.

"We came into the weekend on the back foot trying to understand the tyres, and we did a lot of laps today.

"We've learned quite a lot, we've made some changes, and we can make some better changes for tomorrow."

He agreed with Rosberg that Red Bull was out of reach.

"I was told that on the same laps on long runs, Mark Webber was about eight tenths ahead at some stages, so that's interesting..." said Hamilton.

"Ferrari is competitive, there's Lotus and then the Red Bull is absolutely ballistic."

Hungarian GP: Romain Grosjean fastest in final practice for Lotus

Romain Grosjean, Lotus, Hungarian GP 2013, HungaroringRomain Grosjean set the pace in the final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Lotus driver surged to the top of the times six minutes from the end of the session, his best of 1m20.730s coming during a flurry of quick times set on the soft tyre inside the final 10 minutes.

Fernando Alonso was second for Ferrari, ahead of McLaren's Sergio Perez, who ended up in the barriers with just minutes remaining after spinning at speed on the approach to Turn 11.

Having set the pace during the first two practice sessions, Sebastian Vettel was just fourth fastest in free practice three.

The Red Bull driver spent the majority of the session working on a long run on the medium tyre, and was sitting 19th before improving with a soft tyre run right at the end.

Felipe Massa was fifth, slotting in ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Adrian Sutil.

Kimi Raikkonen missed out on a top 10 spot, finishing 11th after complaining about a lack of rear grip.

Grosjean's pace was not limited to the soft tyre. Earlier in the session, he was one of the pacesetters on the medium tyre, going fastest 18 minutes into the session.

But in the end it was Hamilton who led the way on the medium tyre.

He first jumped to the top 26 minutes into the session with a 1m22.266s, before lowering his best time to a 1m21.942s, the fastest that was set on the harder of the two compounds.

Rosberg's comment in his press release is encouraging:
"Our speed was a bit of a surprise today as the car set-up work was focused on good race pace this weekend." He also says he's confident that [Merc] will look better than last race .


I wondered this....if that's why they were losing out majorly in the 2nd n 3rd sectors...

Nico, what a jerk that massa, could have avoided it but chose to hit nico and then it was a @#$%& up race for him. Also the dnf is a shame as we now lost rbr in the wcc for now, why can merc never capitalise...

As hami said: as we can manage the tyres here, we should be able to do it everywhere else. Come on merc!!!

With old point system it would be something like:

18 points to Vettel.
30 points to RB
6 points ahead of ferrari
10 points ahead of lotus

So i think everything is really possible!!

I think we can start looking at the title here. Long shot but Lewis has the talent, of that there is no doubt.

Come on Lewis.

Nico is also in good form, without DNFs he would be right up there.

So i think the WCC is also still in reach.

Hammi must now have the status, me thinks. Even i am also Nico fan. I think it is the only possible way if WDC is wanted.

Nico has been the headline guy but Lewis has the points...Go figure. All the papers are saying how Nico is putting one over Lewis like he did with MS but Nico is nowhere near on points.

I don't know. I like Nico and think he will have his day. But he can't beat Lewis. Never could. Never will.

Merc will soon have a choice to make. Nico saying 'remember this one' or whatever it was will soon be forgotten through sheer force of talent. Hamilton is just that good.

This year is the first year that Nico has any real competition at Mercedes, before it was easy for him to dominate his team mate. He won't dominate Lewis Hamilton, Lewis is the real deal, and will show Nico they way.

I think Nico has been pretty good also. He has 2 wins already.
Ofcouse he has had many DNF and few problems with tires too.

Overall good show from Nico 2013.

Hammi still has way better shot for WDC so i think he should get a little more help from team but we must also aim for WCC, so nothing like Massa nowadays style cant be planned.

Little bit advantage from race strategy for Hammi, but the results must be made with full throttle and Hammi needs to continue his form. And the team needs to give him the tools to do it.

Nico must have the same car to get to podiums. For the WCC points. Take wins if Hammi gets to trouble for whatever reason.

I hope they lets them race. But i guess with Vettel and Alonso having 100% support, its like a must to compete with them.

Interesting to see. Everything is down to team getting the max results. Last 5 races has been a success. So i wouldn´t change lot. Only minor things.

I think you are a big Nico fan and he's a great driver. I think I'm a big JB fan and he's a great driver. Both can win a WDC with the right circumstances, one already has. But over either of them, I would put my money on Hamilton any day. That's just the way it is.

Hammi has been great!!! Good Times ahead for Mercedes.
