MercedesAMG F1 Korean GP 2013 (4.-6.10.2013)

By Timba7
September 24 2013

Korean GP was introduced back in 2010. And it was almost late for the start. The track is Tilkes design. And they have made contract for 7 years with Ecclestones FOM company for F1 races. Mercedes brought good amount of updates to Singapore but couldn´t get maximum out of the package. Maybe Yeongam track brings the full potential out of the new parts and Nico and Hammi can fight for win. Check out the track layout here:

korea 2

Track is driven unlike normal. Anticlockwise.

1.39,605 (Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, 2011)

I think we'll take another beating, hope to be proven wrong though.

Let's hope we can regain 2nd in the WTCC.

Expecting another parade. I don't think anybody is really even trying to catch Red Bull at this stage. They're just working on parts and systems for next year.

Might be yes. But oddly there were updates at Singapore. My hope is Hammi will get Alonso. And Merc as team gets Ferrari for 2nd.

He's already 36 points down and nando is consistent in gathering points + almost all the time on the podium... sad smiley

Yep. That's a lot to expect. Possible...but remote.

What you need to hope is that Massa falls on his face so that the combination of your drivers overhauls Ferrari (read Alonso) for 2nd.

It's worth millions of dollars to the team, so it is worth fighting for to be sure.

Ofcourse i am not hoping it to happen. But its not unusual. Like we all know. They all have tech failures time to time.

Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team

Nico Rosberg

“The track is really great and the small changes that have been made this year are good improvements, especially the pit exit which is now much better. Generally it seems that we had a good day but Red Bull is always very hard to beat. We were quite close to them today and I hope this will continue the whole weekend. My only concern after the long runs was graining on the front tyres, which is something we need to work on tonight and watch out for. We have brought also some new bits and pieces to Korea which are working well and leaves me optimistic for a strong result this weekend.”

Lewis Hamilton

“I was very happy with how the sessions went today and it’s the first time I can remember that second practice has really gone well for me. We haven’t changed anything but the day just went smoothly and all the processes with the team worked well. I love this track: it was clean from the start, it provides good racing on Sunday afternoon and it just gets harder and harder through the lap. You have the first sector which is good for overtaking, then you get more and more corners coming at you and those final two sectors are all about precision. You need a good downforce package, too, and the car is feeling good. We can still make improvements overnight, and I have some things I want to do with the set-up, but it’s been a good start for us.”

Ross Brawn, Team Principal

“We made a good start to the weekend with both cars today. We ran through the planned programme, evaluated our test items and got good long runs on both types of tyre in the afternoon session to give us plenty of data to pore through this evening. In terms of competitiveness, all the usual Friday caveats apply: we know only what fuel loads we ran, not those of our competitors, so tomorrow will show us where we actually stand. As always, we will work hard overnight to further improve the cars and build on this good start to the weekend.”

Lewis did what he could, BUT I think merc should have gotten him "last one over the line"...

MERCEDES @#$%& MORONS!!! What the hell were they thinking with letting Hamilton drive on old tyres. Looks like they were trying to get Rosberg in front of him...

And then Rosberg's wing. Instead of letting hami through, no just blocking. Nice teamwork! Best race duo??? My ass! That's not teamwork at all but pure selfdestructive action.

Look at what a dismal result we had today, when we could have had 3-4th. If they want to be champ next year, they better change their thinking ways, what a disgrace!!! Ros you suck!!!(Sm95)

What a race. Some great battling but also tech and strategy problems.

I think they had some lap aim for Hammi and they didnt want him to stop one extra pit stop few laps till the end. Hammi is just full throttle. And these tires cant cope it now.

Nico drove different race. He saved the tires, and would have got the reward of that. But another tech trouble for him. The whole nose fell off which is unforgivable.

Hulk was something else. That acceleration out of corners was sick. DRS or KERS use by Hammi and Alonso. He defended both these attacks. WOW.

Ofcourse that wasnt good for Hammi. Which was sick.

Overall i liked the race a lot. We are only one point from Ferrari in WCC rank. So there is good bettle going on!!!

It looks like Niko is much better on tyres than Lewis,
that's clear for me.

When the tyres are not so important during a race - Lewis is faster than Niko and vice versa.

They seem to use slightly different strategy for race. It might be teams decision. But when Nico was pole. He had straight forward strategy and they pushed like hell.

But from far back in the starting grid. Clearly they try to save tires and drive in the clean. Its been working but always something technical comes to spoil Nicos race.

Hammi has been better in Q since Pirelli changed the tires back to 2012 specs. And he has got more aggressive tactic for race. Too bad these tires dont last his driving style in the race. In the race they need to be driven like granny style.
